Hydro Boost Rocks! UPDATE @ BOTTOM

Re: Hydro Boost Rocks!

Really? When we were talking with the manuf. they said they had 2 diff. part # pumps, one for vacuum and one for hydro. They said they sued a different spring preload in the piston and orifice size in the fitting...

Re: Hydro Boost Rocks!

I am by no means an expert, and I can't say for sure, but I believe they are the same, at least originally. I've heard/read that the relief valves are different, and that they are the same. IIRC, Matt at WTO also said the pumps and valves were the same when I was talking to him about my setup and modifying it for better performance. If they were not the same, then the procedure for upgrading them would be different. I know that I’ve run pumps from Vac and Hydro applications on my truck, I’ve got one of each in the shop now, and I can’t tell one from the other (though I have not run the Vac pump since the hydro assist was installed). Sounds like the manufacturer was saying pretty much that the pumps are the same, just the valve is setup different. Matt will be back soon if not already, we can get verification from him then if no body else knows for sure…

Re: Hydro Boost Rocks!

Congrats! I'm glad you got it all fixed. Nice when things work the way they're supposed to. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Hydro Boost Sucks!

I have hydroboost on my 87 1ton and have been unable to stop my brake pedal from going to the floor. I am on master cylinder #3, booster, ps pump, and hose set #2, prop valve #2, reblt front calipers and new rotors, and new shoes and truned drums (with rears adjusted very tight). At low rpm, my steering is underassisted and a firm foot can get the brake pedal to go to the floor, at which time the pedal begins to chatter and the steering requires superhuman effort. Does anyone have any ideas?? Is this normal? I have only driven one other truck with hydroboost, and it did the same thing as mine. Does anyone know if there is a different flow regulator in the ps pump for hydroboosted brakes, and if so where I can get one??

Dumb question, but are you bench bleeding the master cylinder when you replace it?

Re: Hydro Boost Sucks!

Well what you described is exactly what my truck was doing... The chattering brake pedal was due to my on it's way out hydrobooster and the no power was from the dead power steering pump. You might try modifying your pump for a little more flow and pressure per the WTO Site.

However your brake pedal, is it going to the floor or going down about half way and stopping? Mine would go down about half way and stop, I mistook this for being a master ylinder problem when in fact it was me just not having power brakes and the hard stop was actually the force being put on the master pedal by the master cylinder un-assisted. If I really stood on them I could get it to stop.

If it is hitting the floor then that is a master cylinder/lines/calipers/drums problem.
