I installed Hydro Boost in my Blazer, New to me.

What can I expect, or need to do if the motor shuts down?

I know with the stock brake system, I can still stop but will have to press the brake pedal much harder.

Thank you,
Ed

If the motor shuts down the braking will still be hard just like with a vacuum boost system. One thing a hydroboost system will do that is different from a vacuum boost is when the engine shuts down is the brake pedal will kick back at you sometimes. You might want to consider getting a small oil cooler for your power steering fluid because those hydroboost systems can get the power steering fluid hot.

My diesel pickup has hydroboost, and let me tell you, from my experience--if you get the P/S belt wet or it breaks, you'll be standing up off the seat trying to stop, and you wont even be able to lock up the tires, unlike a vacuum boosted power brake setup..also you wont have power steering !..double jeapordy...!..
I'm not a big fan of hydroboost, but when its working correctly it is better than vacuum assist brakes..but more liable to fail,IMO..

From my experience a hydroboost vs. vacuum assist brake system acts about the same when the engine is off. If you think about it the only real difference is in the power assist portion of the system and both stop working as soon as the engine shuts off (well, you can usually get one last brake assist with the accumulator). As stated above the biggest issue I ever had with hydroboost is if you lose power brakes you usually also lost power steering.

The little canister next to the master cylinder is supposed to give you some brake assist in the event of loss of the p/s system. I've been running hydroboost on my wheeling rigs for the past 16 years and I like it fine. I prefer the braking power of the hydroboost over the vacuum assist trucks I've driven.
