I just got myself a MM 10.5k hydrolic. havent fully tested it out yet, but high speed is fast! I decided to go with hydrolic in the front, and possibly adding a significantly smaller electric in the rear. (6000-9000) my theory is that most stucks do not kill your engine. the ones that do, generally means that either a. you've flipped ( or at a bad angle for a carb guy) or b. your nose deep into some pretty awful stuff and your most likely only half way though. Most likely, winching yourself forward will be tough, unless you have massive amounts of batteries, a waterproof electric winch and swim to the other side. In this situation, i'd rather winch myself backwards.Hench, a rear-mounted electric winch. Ascending a really big slippery climb, non -electric will always win on long long pulls.
So the main question I asked myself was , " what kinda stucks do I get into" and "what would I need to get out"
