Do they put out more pressure/volume than a non-hydroboost pump?

They are different, and the hydroboost pumps are designed to power both the steering and the brakes while the standard pump only has to power the steering.

My hydro assist isn't as strong as I think it should be and I think the pump is weak. If the hydroboost pump is better than I will switch to that (which gives me an excuse to go to a better reservoir setup too).

Oh yeah, I don't have hydroboost brakes and don't ever plan on adding them.

My understanding is that hydroboost loves pressure and hydo-assist loves flow. That's why many hydroboost setups need to have the hydroboost unit "high-flowed" when adding hydro-assist.

In the searching I've done there's some debate about whether a hydroboost pump actually puts out more pressure. The most obvious difference is in the pump reservoir.

Believe the pumps are the same, but the reservoirs have a return unlike the no hydroboost pumps.

Well, I cracked the lines to replace the cooler with a bigger one tonight and the fluid came out dark and burnt (it was clear, synthetic power steering fluid when it went in).

I'm going to blame the pump. Its almost 10 years old :dunno:
