Hydroboost replacement

I received a rebuilt hydroboost from RockAuto to replace the leaking on on my K30. However, it did not come with the plate for the firewall so I need to get this big nut off to transfer the old one over. I know I don't have a wrench big enough at this point. Not sure if I will be able to find one at the local hardware store. Anyone done this before?

Yeah, if you have one give it a shot. At first I was like eh.. maybe not a good idea, but I see the new one comes with a new nut, so who cares Or go grab a socket, spray it with some PB blast while you wait and think about what you're gunna do.

Stevens Pass area, I'm assuming any REAL store is going to be quite a bit of a drive? Call your local store, see what sizes they go up to. Or see if they can order it. Our local store is a farmer's supply, so they have a bit of everything, what they don't have, you sit down and go through their big books and they'll order it.

If you don't have a Crescent wrench big enough, grab a pipe wrench.

I know, I know, but if you do it carefully, adjust it up so that its bearing on the flats, it won't do any damage.
May mark the paint up some, or put a few marks on the flats, but some rattle can paint will cover them if you care.

kinda pricey, but you could apply the correct torque. Might be able to get a cheap autozone socket and modify it to work.

I was in the same boat and wasn't able to get anything big enough to turn it into the gap. I ended up getting the local chevy dealer to chisel it off for me. I took it to them assuming someone there would have the tool for it. they didn't, but at least it was off.

I think the main thing here is if he's where I think he is, it could be a LONG drive to civilization. Well, at least to an auto parts store or tool store. You tend to consolidate your infrequent trips to larger towns.

The link to the ebay tool gives me what I need to machine my own tool. He even lists all of the dimensions in the ad! My main concern with making my own socket was taking the rod off first to use it. But, that design looks good and doesn't require removing the rod.

I'm actually only an hour out of Seattle, so running to get stuff I need isn't too bad. But for a simple tool like this, I will make it myself if I can scrounge up the material easily.

I am fairly sure the pic on the website showed the plate... but it didn't come with it.

Captainfab over on the '47-present forum makes all sorts of adapters to stick hydroboost in older trucks. One of the best things I think he makes is a tool to remove the nut.
