Ive come to notice driving all our company super duties that the ford version of hydroboost sucks. You cant turn the steering at all when you have your foot on the brakes hard.

Does the GM setup have this same issue? I can honestly say Ive never driven a GM hydroboost truck but was planning to run the setup in my trooper except I dont want this issue.

My '05 GMC has hydroboost. The brakes and steering are both awesome.

my Dads 06 Dmax CCLB 4x4 truck runs 35" tires
not sure if it's the tires not rolling, or bring on the breaks at the same time
it is impossible to turn the wheels

has new pump, one hose, and steering box

My '79 K30 has everything stock and rather worn, but in the 5+ years that I have had it, I don't recall it having a problem like that. I have driven a couple others a fair amount with no complaints as well. My '70 K10 has a Vanco set-up on it with stock old pump. It only has a loss of steering aired down, stopped, brakes held some, on ashpalt. (from what I can remember..) It only has little old 33's. :doah:

I personally, don't love hydroboost for this reason. Sure, it has a bit higher line pressure, but I like to steer too

Sometimes that's all you get though, my tow rig has to have it because it's a diesel.

And who knows, if I had vacuum brakes on it, maybe I'd think the brakes sucked :haha:

Tangent aside, I've heard from reliable sources that it sounds like pretty much all hydroboost units, regardles of Chevy/Ford/Dodge, seem to be pretty much identical.

Ford power steering pumps have traditionally been much weaker than the P pump that's on most GM/Dodge trucks, IMO that's probably a lot of the issue.

The only time I noticed a loss of power assist to the steering or brakes on my 82 k2500 with a diesel & hydroboost was when I got the belt wet after going thru deep puddles where the road flooded over...the belt squealed,my steering got very stiff, and standing up off the seat on the brake pedal made for some very "exciting" seconds when entering a traffic rotary right after where the deep water was!...:eek1:..

I then wondered how dangerous driving it will be if the P/S belt snapped or came off at highway speeds...:eek1::eek1:...I guess GM puts a lot of faith in a v-belt,seeing hydroboost is used on one ton dumps and other 3500 series!..

I don't have any issues with my hydroboost swap. I can stand on the brakes and walk the wheel back and forth no problem (tried it on concrete and asphalt). since my swap is new the pump and booster are new so maybe that helps.
I did add a remote reservoir though because I initially had problems running low on fluid under those conditions.
