Whats involved in this swap? I have a complete system from a late 70s 1 ton truck pump to steering box to firewall. can I just swap it all over? And to my recolection the front and rear brake lines are swapped on that 1 ton master cylinder?

late 70's woud be flare fittings on the hard lines, I believe it was 80 that started the Oring fittings.
The pump and reservoir has the extra line fitting on it for the HB system, so you should be good there with your salvage parts.
The brake pedal has a different leverage point than a vac system (mine was from an 82 K5 diesel)...I harvested the brake pedal and bracket from my donor vehicle as well....I suppose you could redrill your existing pedal if needed.
I ended up making a custom m/c pushrod as my replacement m/c was different than the hydroboost one and I was in a major time crunch at the time.

Oh interesting.. I'll see what's up. I still have a cucv I could swap pedal assy with..

Lots of info in this thread --> http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306221

In short, your best bet is to swap as much as possible from the donor vehicle, including pedal, booster, master, hoses, steering box and pump.

In my case, I went with the newer (O-ring) style steering pump, box and hoses, and used a matching master. Be sure to match the master to the year/style of booster or you'll get into fitment trouble.

You don't need to swap the steering gear unless you are trying to cross between the flare and O-ring years.

Also, it's nice to have a pump reservoir with dual returns, but it's not absolutely necessary. You can always tee into the return line close to the pump. The P-pump inside is the same on all of them anyway, so if you have a good pump all you really need is the reservoir. But think about warranty returns if you will be swapping pump parts around and have a warranty or may get one.

I think you can still get the hoses from standard parts stores (just order parts for the 1-ton with hydroboost), but it's much cheaper to get everything from salvage and less likely you'll end up mismatched.

I have everything including the remote pump reservoir and the steering box and the booster obviously. Sounds like it should be a simple swap.. aside the pedal change.
