i just got the salad bowl cause other run it and say it works good. so figered what the heck.

well as i was checking fitment to both tbi and filter housing i noticed a bit restriction in my opinion. here is some pics .

if you wana open up the injectors and get more air flow wouldnt it be best to open up the bottom of the air filter base to closly match the new salad bowl ( power charger ) unit ?

i have easy acssess to a plasma cutter for a good clean openup job .

pics #1-2 unit new
pics #3-4 stock bolt on
pic #5 would be remove all of the yellow circle area to make room for a lot more air threw the filter base.

so would this be good or bad idea ? thanks . :waytogo:

I think thats what your supposed to do:dunno: Thats what others have done. I still havent but been going to

How can it increase the air flow quantity? The only way to do that is decrease the restriction or increase the air pressure, right?

Reminds me of that turbo deal they sold for years and when someone finally tested it and published the results it was just a lie.

It gives noticeable results:dunno:

it dosnt say that i seen to cut the bottom out. but if you do this it will make the stock base not be able to go back to stock setup if you ever wanted it to.

also it unshrouds the injector area to make a better air flow to the injector spray pattern and throttle blades.

excuse the lack of paint skills. But the red and green lines are air flow stock, purple and yellow are with the salad bowl

the salad bowl removes and replaces the spacer unit between the tbi and air filter base. so you get a much wider smother airflow path. less restriction and turbulance to get in better.

will go get pics give me a few min.

more pics

stock tbi unit thats junk just used for picture needs.

you can see i cant even get my index finger between the injector pod and stock air filter spacer.

next is salad bowl unit

you can see the masive unsrouding now and also the still limited area if you dont cut the base housing to open it up.

From the looks of this picture you may be able to put an air filter on it with a lid, just like an open element filter?

Or are you supposed to cut out the bottom of your air cleaner?

not correct dia for just filter n top lid.

also dosnt say to cut bottom out as thay say if you need emmisions testing remove and put stock section back in place of salad bowl.

I guess it's made to just replace the spacer between TBI and air filter? would work as it opens up the air around TBI. But it sure would look/work better with air filter cut open to salad bowl size...

it still gives a big improvement even if you dont cut it. I havent cut mine and its still noticeable. the air can still get around the injectors and come in from the side. would be better cut, but doesnt need to be to work

Actually if you go to the parts store and dig through the filters you CAN find one thats the right diameter:waytogo: But you have to cut down a lid to work with it. I had mine set up that way for a while, then bought a different air cleaner and just havent cut the new ones base.
