Hypothetical half ton 6 lug rear axle upgrades

Scenery and 10 bolts...

Rene

Can 9 bolts play too? i lost some differential bolts so i just stuck some gum in the hole so it wouldn't leak :haha:

I would like to know about these 14b ff 6 lug conversion hubs... research is needed! to the mancave!

nerding it out......3am... work in 4 hours... OVERLOAD!

Going to bed, i expect links in 12 hours when im back from work:haha:

I think the advise depends on what youre using the truck for. For a trail rig thats going to get beat on, and miles away from civilization, or oversized tires, yeah, id advise at the very least a 6 lug 14bsf out back. But this was said to be primarily a DD rig, which is what i have right now, and the 10 bolt and 33in tires have been working without any issues. As the DD duties have been taken over by my jetta, the truck has assumed toy status, hopefully seeing more trail duty than roads, hence the reason im doing my upgrades.

Sounds like an easy life for a 10 bolt. Just pick up a spare gov-bombless 10 bolt to throw in when needed, and keep an eye out for a deal on a locker. If you get another 30spline, then you end up with a spare set of axle shafts too.

Keep the drum brakes, they work fine, they're as light as disc's and have a park brake that works good.
Agreed. I would never do disc on a 1/2 ton axle. I just don't see any benefits to justify the cost. A well turned drum with a high quality set of shoes is gonna work just as good as a single piston caliper, and as Rene mentioned the e-brake works.....

Come to think of it I do have a 10bolt rear for sale 28 spline and has been completely rebuilt.... 4.10s though :doah: but seriously... :deal: Did I mention I have spare axel shafts too?

Hahaha, bit far man.

Few years ago a buddy of mine got a 12 bolt with a Detroit in it,low gears, and alloy shafts for a song when the mud bogger who owned it kept blowing up truck parts and went all beef and bigger tires. Think he paid $250. I'm not that lucky.
