I bought a painless wiring TCC vacuum controlled lockup kit. I also have a slight cam which affects my vacuum. At certain RPMs the tranny stutters between lock and unlock. I feel like the switch is engaging as soon as it hits OD/4th gear and then causes the tranny to shift into 3rd and then back up to 4th and so on. This process continues until I give it some gas to build up my speed and then the lockup engages. I have adjusted the vacuum switch and I still cannot get a proper setting. I am about done with this stuff. I have a few questions before I rip this entire setup out and go to an electronic controlled TCC.
1) The kit calls for a ported vacuum line. I had to run mine into a regular vacuum as the Holley sniper only has one ported vacuum and that goes to the vac advance on the distributer. Can I run two vacuum lines into the ported using a t connector or will that negatively affect my vac advance?
2) Is there a better vacuum switch that folks are using in place of some of the aftermarket junk?
3) If I cannot get this thing to work, what electronic TCC lockup does the CK5 community recommend?

I am at the final stages of this build before I put this thing up for sale. I have a few minor issues with this truck, but I am soooo close to being "done". I do not want to use a manual switch as it just seems to be a pita. Any advice is appreciated.

I just put one of these on my Nova, but it's a TCI kit. I assumed manifold vacuum so I've been using that. Now that I read the manual again, it says to use ported. However, it also mentions: "If you find that the TCC operation is erratic in your application, then you may try moving the vacuum source to the manifold."

The only issue I had was part throttle into the 2000rpm range, it would flap back and forth. I assumed that it needed adjustment due to my altitude (5-7000ft). I adjusted it counter-clockwise about 1/4 turn and it's been running great.

I never liked the one I had and I just used a manual switch. It's a bit of nuisance, but I could tell pretty quick coming to a stop when I forgot to flip it off.

Look at your emissions label. There is supposed to be a factory vacuum switch, plus a delay valve.

If vacuum doesn’t help, I think TCI had a set up that just ran electric. It would lock 4th automatically. It couldn’t control unlocking 4th, it would just drop into 3rd. Finish accelerating and back into 4th, second later it locked. That was the simple set up.

Now I have my 700r set up with hydraulically controlled lock up so it can lock and unlock 4th. That might not be your answer if you’re selling the truck soon.

So I called painless yesterday and spoke to the tech rep. He said some folks like the manifold vac as the ported vac only engages at certain rpms (i did not know that) while the manifold vac pulls all the time. I am going to try teeing into the ported line with the vac switch line because it seems to be engaging too soon in 4th. If the ported line does not pull until lets say 1500rpm that may be enough to get me over the "stutter zone". I will let you folks know what I find.
