I bought some 1/8\" Diamond tread for my floors, do they make 1/16\"

I dont know all the gauge sizes and all that...
My refloors I replaced with 1/8" diamond tread steel. I need to do some fixing and patching in the front floor now and I want to make custom inner wheel wells. Do they make a diamond tread thinner than 1/8", like 1/16" or something in the middle of those two? I need to be able to bend it, weld to it and not have one of the inner fender weighing 50lbs each.
I'd call the guy local steel house but that guy gives me hassel when I call in poking around for info /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Anyone have conversion charts like 1/8" = 11 gague and such? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

They make:

16 gauge

14 gauge

12 gauge

then

1/8"

Couldn't tell ya what the thicknesses are, but that is the sizes I can get it in /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yes, you can buy down to 16 ga = .060
I couldn't find a good source for a chart without scanning something but here's a quick run down on size/gage for steel sheet.
gage decimal
3 .240
8 .164
11 .120
14 .075
16 .060
18 .048
20 .036
22 .030
24 .024

Just remember Gage no. is different for non-ferrous, steel sheets, strip & tubing and basic steel wire.....

They do make thinner pieces. Go to ebay and type in "diamond tread" or "diamond plate" there is a company on there that sells the stuff in many different thicknesses and will cut it any size you want.

There's a full sheet and a half of 1/8" diamond tread in the back,

Then it bends down in the front

I want to replace these front sections minus the hump in the middle now

Plus the new tailpan and subframe in the rear

In a 1000 years the aliens will be sifting through the remains of earth and find it and I entify it is a personal tank for the 20th century. LOL

Make a great minesweeper, or armored personnel carrier.

Seriously, it is heavy, but the work looks really good. I think i just would have used material at least half as thick as that, maybe thinner. Other than that it looks awesome. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif 1/8" checker plate wieghs roughly 5-6 lbs per square foot, so that floor all by itself is close to 200 lbs.../forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

The sheet metal and block will be the only things left... the frame is almost gone right now! /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

Yeah its heavy no doubt! But since its not ribbed like thinner metals it doesn't have the tensile/bending resistance... thus the subframe also... Alfter all it is holding the body weight of the vehicle up in the rear /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

I think I'm going to use 16 gauge to patch in the front floors... THe whole truck is pretty light I would guess.. after 15years of plowing the rust weights less than metal /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

that looks great!

Seriously if I had a plasma cutter it would be pretty easy to do. I have about $500 in metal including 3x3 sliders, subframe, rear bumper, the channel I used for the center body mount, and bushings so far.. Maybe another $150 in 1/16" to do the front floors and inner wheel wells. I want to trim the fender back a little more and make custom inner wheel wells.

As far as me doing it again... /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif I dont think so! It would take alot of money to get me to do it again. Even with a plasma cutter it would probley still take 4-5 days and alot of welding
