I took the blazer out today for the first time since august. The first trail I went on ate my lunch...I snapped an axle, blew out my power steering pump, and developed a nasty death wobble on the drive home. Took me 2 hours to drive 20 miles....

Yeah they were stock 30 spline.

I guess I need to update my signature.
Im running 39.5 iroks on the front now.
I was hammering down on the skinny pedal and I thought my locker wasn't working or a hub was busted. But it was a shaft...

From the picture it looks like you didn't explode the shaft causing damage to the spindle, just simply snapped the stub.

Time for an upgrade.

I would say it was a mixture of bad luck and my heavy foot:doah:

Where is everyone getting shafts? Im looking to buy all new shafts (since I have the neck downs) and 35 spline outers.

I'm thinking about keeping with the non chromoly stubs, and just getting 35 spline spicers, I hear the don't break the locker like a chromoly does

I've broke chromoly shafts and my locker is fine still. Just build it strong and be done.

What locker are you running? I have a lock rite, and im looking at the Yukon chrome molys. Just wondering if the lock rite would hold up? And I want to run flanges too.

you must have been beating HARD if you broke it with those 37s

I did this on 37's and my rig was only 4500 lbs. at the time. The stock stuff shafts are made from really crappy metal (I've heard 1020 or worse) and they're by far the weakest part on a front D60.

The locker breaking when a shaft breaks seems to be random and in my opinion, you're better off with a better shaft that is less likely to break in the first place.

We deal with lots of Yukon stuff but if you're looking for bang-for-the-buck in D60 chromoly shafts, check out the Superior Discovery series. In my opinion they are a better shaft (primarily due to a better heat treat) and they are a fair amount cheaper than the Yukons.

Looks familiar, Chris.

I have ran a lockright for like 8 years or so now. Broke a bunch of other stuff and it is still going strong.

Well MNorby, I am glad you said you had that locker. I didnt want to have to swap it out for fear of catastropy! I am looking at just swapping out my stubs for now. Go 35 Spline with flanges. This spring I will step up to 4340 shafts all the way through and keep the ones I will have for spares.

I would just go chromoly now and by a 3rd chromo spare later. Every now and then you find used ones on classifieds too. I got mine from ORD and when I had to do some warranty it was the best and fastest return than the other places I have warrantied shafts.
