I can make a noose out of my wires, that's it though, help!

Ok, let me start by saying this project has become a huge weight on my shoulders. I don’t see how some of you fellas don’t go crazy with your projects. Mine has only been down for 6-7 months I think. But OMFG I want it running so bad, how bad? Don’t ask. I have so much $ in parts just sitting. I totally understand some of you now. My truck needs nothing but tires and I will be super happy, well that is after its running and the other $$$$ in parts are on. Literally needs nothing but time and knowledge.

Please help me with my electrical. I have read over and over the electrical diagrams from my shop manual. It’s pretty nice FAT book too, but I’m fairly dumb and past a lot of the OEM connections. I’m putting in the EZ Wiring 21 kit and while most of it is straight forward, I tend to make things difficult and complicate things.

I’m pretty sure I’ll have a hundred questions. If anyone would be so kind as to help me though some of this, I’d be overwhelmingly grateful. I have no one to help me with this truck, not a soul lol. Family, friends, no one but CK5. Questions…

I have some wires that I don’t know where they go.

A) There are two AC Compressor marked wires, one in the engine loom and one in the cab loom. Both are purple. One goes to the compressor for the clutch and I need to make my ground right? The other goes?

B) There are wires marked FAN FAN……FAN Power…..AC/ heat power. Dunno where they go. There is an electric fan fuse, but I wont be using it. There is a grey wire from the factory fan controller that needs something, not sure which though. Then there is still the heavy gauge red wire on the firewall under the hood.

C) I have a couple extra wires. Cruise Control Power and Power Antenna. I need neither of these. What could they be used for? Are they IGN hot? There are two ppl Antenna wires with one going out of the cab and one in.

D) My door sensors are just grounds. What is the TAN wire for the drivers side do?

E) What is the DIMMER wire for? I no longer have my factory headlight knob, I’m only running switches for everything. I’m just going to run my dash lights with my gauge power. They are small LEDs and I don’t see a problem tying them into each other. The DIMMER wire is heavy gauge, don’t know if it has current, don’t know anything…

F) I have some stock wires from my rear window, side windows, and doors. They are pink and orange/blk. The window/ door loom has both colors (2wires). The rear window loom also has both colors (2wires). I’m confused, I have two EZ kit wires. One marked windows and one marked doors. For some reason the doors one is heavier gauge. Also, can I run all 3 windows off my POWER WINDOWS leg? Factory wiring for this stuff is soooo much bigger than what the EZ kit gives me.

G) I bought a 140amp Powermaster Alt. The kit says to run a bypass to the starter for anything over 80amps. I think it’s also a one wire hookup alt, though it still has the two pins on top. I thought the large stud in back went to the battery and the two pins came from the harness. I’m confused how it works. I have no experience in this.

H) I will have switches located where my headlight knob used to be. One will run headlights w/ marker lights. Another will run dome light w/ optional door grounds. My switch needs to run a relay, it’s not big enough for the draw. Can I run the relay close to the switch or does it need to be closer to its load?

I) The electrical fuel pump wire is IGN hot right? Think I could use this for something else?

J) I bought a mechanical fuel pump the other day. It does not have a return line like my stocker did. Should I just cap off my return line down on the frame rail?

I think that’s it for now.
Please, even pick one if you can, it would help more than you know

What harness are you using?

Bring it over and I'll help you with the wiring :D

Dude, I'm not sure I can help at all. And I figure stuff like this out for a living.
The problem is, you are asking about where certain wire colors go and what they do.

But, if I understand you correctly, these wires colors are from the EZ kit, not the factory wires.
Since I do not have a schematic on one of those kits, any information I give you would be just educated guesses.
For instance, the dimmer wire on some GMs goes from the light switch to the dimmer switch and powers the headlights.
No idea what yours does.
Went to the EZ site, they do not offer down-loadable schematics unless you buy their wires.

Relay question: The relay CAN be anywhere, but usually you want it as close between the power source and the load as possible to minimize the amount of heavy wire you have to run.

Also, I'm guessing that this is for the 1985 K10 in your sig, right?

I will try to help as much as possible. I used to build harnesses for Kwik Wire. I will answer in the same format your questions are asked using letters for the sub paragraphs.
a. Yes you need to make a ground. The other goes to the AC switch on your temp control check your wiring diagrams.
b. Call EZ wire and ask which is your electric fan and your heater fan. Then ask how to route them and connect them.
c. Yes they are Ign Hot.
d. Not sure Call EZ wire.
e. Dimmer should be for your headlight dimmer switch
f. If my memory serves me correct Pink/Blk is Power Door Locks, and Orange/Blk is Power Windows. Check the gauge on the stocker sometimes it appears to be larger but when you check the actual wire gauge it comes out right.
g. The large terminal on the back is going to your battery using the large red wire from your engine group. The terminal marked 2 must be wired to a positive source (it can be spliced with the batt+ wire that is going to the back of your alternator. The terminal marked 1 is only used if you have a battery light on the dash, i don't know how to get that working.
h. The relay question I want to answer that the relay should be as close to the load as possible. Im waiting on an answer from my brother who worked at the same shop as me for 10 years. If anyone can help chime in on this one.
i. Fuel Pump is Ign Hot.
j. If you are in Cali I would get a pump with a return line. A cap off might not let you pass the sniffer. I cant really answer that one because I have never lived in Cali.

I guess those would be hard to answer. Might of hoped there would be a lot of EZ Kit owners out there.

*Relay goes close to load.
*Temp controller is where in the truck? I only have 2 loose wires from the AC system. The large red one under the hood and a 16ish awg gray one that is the dash loom.
*Pink=doors, Orange = windows. My factory rear window switch has both colors though. OOO maybe that's for IGN hot and IGN cold for the rear tailgate switch. ahhh
*I wont have a dimming option, using all LEDs. What should I do with the wire?
*Huge wire from post to battery. Number 2 terminal to starter?
*I checked for fuel pumps, only on Summit though I admit, and they didn't have any with returns.

source being the switch, load, or main supply. I want to put it in the dash and run the load side to the headlights

duh...
so I can power the lights with the kit, using my switch, but run the wires to a relay near the battery...THEN to the headlights and marker lights. :)

here is a pic of my light controls. I had the switches. The knob was broken. So I figured I try something new. The switches are only 16amp rated I think

thank you sir, figuring out how to wire in my relays now. Simple spst, source, constant, all that jazz lol.

another question

what is the TAN wire coming from my door ground switch? I have the white ones from each switch being used for my dome lights, but the TAN one has a factory plug on it with a wire. Dunno where it goes after the plug. Also ground?
