i can see the light now UPDATE #31 new pics soon of full redo

I first saw "fluorescent" LEDs at Lowes last week, looking to replace a basic kitchen 4' 4 bulb fixture that had a bad T-12 ballast at a house I'm working on.

BUT, the only fixtures they had were the round ones, not the actual 4' shop style. I don't think they're mainstream just yet. I only knew of the 4' LED ones because at Lowes they had the product placard of all the "new LED fluorescent" fixtures, but that particular store didn't even sell them. Even though they had the "Switch to LED" signs everywhere, yet only had two different round style fixtures to choose from, at that store.

The ones I saw were EXPENSIVE.

:angry1: I HATE ELECTRICAL :weapon17:

got some new led 4ft work lights for the paint bay so when your in there and don't need the heat from 12 300watt halogens you can see to work .

well silly me I want clean / correct / look just like what there already for switch box and such . . . . . . .

for the life of me I planned it out and still got to few boxes and crap . also didn't relize I grabbed 14gauge wire not 10 so I thunk . . . . . . dam feeds from braker panel are 10 and in junction box go to 12 gauge .

so back to the god dam frigin store Friday for a 3rd mother frigin time to get 12 gauge .

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :ignore:

well went and got the 12ga wire today and got all but 1 outlet/light unstalled with no problems after the ordeal .

some more pics will be up later tonight after I get home and get the 5th light hung /pluged in . just ran out of time before work .

but the 6th light will be a bit more fun as I need to fish a wire around 25ft threw the conduit and cut in a box for it to make a plug . then just hang it .

reason taking so long and difficult is I have the upper outlets I am installing hooked to a switch so I don't have to go around and pull 6 cords every time I want on/off . :D

pic #1 = day light only side door window and threw main shop .

pic #2 = just 2 lights truck left and daylight.

pic #3 = 3rd light added front of truck. starting to not see day light anymore.

pic #4 = front / look in to bay view of just the 3 lights .

pic #5 = tonight after work around 10:30pm all 5 up now and on . just got to clean back of paint bay out and then install 6th light at the rear .

yes wall's are this gosh darn yucky yellow from years of crap and paint overspray . needs a white wash of new paint and would be 10x better . might even do a white concrete sealer on the floor maybe like drylock ? ? ? who knows.

all those 4' LED replacement bulbs for FL. fixtures are kinda worthless IMHO. They may last longer.. :dunno: but they do NOT use less power as advertised. I'm currently replacing the bulbs and ballasts in 200+ fixtures in our office building as my own little side OT project at work. We have tried 4 different styles/brands. ALL OF THEM in a 4 bulb t8 fixture drew .3 amps. the original worn out 8 year old bulbs and ballasts pull .3 also  and we got the main ones somebody decided to go with for like $7 a bulb.

GIGANTIC waste of money:doah: only difference in light output is the color because we removed coolwhites and the LED's were daylight or similar

these are whole new fixtures not conversion bulbs .

main reason I did it was no real heat . if working in there before it was HOT with up to 12 300watt quarts halogen bulbs on .

now working is no problem with the led . and not a yellowish light .

yeah... I sould have specified posts:haha: oops. I seen the other ones mentioned a few posts ago and hadnt even realized the ones you were putting up were LED. I was thinking yours were normal fluorescent.

Them made a huge difference in your shop. I have 6 t12 fixtures in mine and its bright but not quite enough. probably would be better if i layed them out the way you did:thinking: I just have them in 2 rows of 3 on the ceiling

ya layout and even angle seems to play a huge key role even if there not exactly what you want .

these in the paint booth are hung at a 45* angle to the wall .

yesterday and today was productive lets just say . . .

pics in the next day or two .

12 new l.e.d. lights up in the main work bay and removed the 6 8ft h.o. florescent units . . and 1 needed a new ballest and the rest hummmmmed so bad it drove me nuts just about .

I have 8 up now and all conduit and wires re-run with reg outlets . . . lets just say its smoother light and its going to work just fine.

Off subject.....Aren't you worried about termites in the firewood you were keeping in there?

its not there anymore . . . long burnt up or in new storage place outside under cover . also never heard of anyone here in my area talk termites . . .

Carpenter ants are what I'd be worried about--I had a bunch of them that were living in one of the old pallets I hauled in the garage to burn, and they migrated to the rear endwall, and proceeded to chew the hell out of the header over the overhead door opening, they ate part of the 2x6's and tunneled into the layer of plywood sandwiched between them...a good dousing with used motor oil laced with gas, fixed that issue..

They also found some 3x12" planks I had stacked on a work bench--one day I heard some strange noises coming from that area, and when I picked up one of the planks,it was light as balsa wood--the underside was just tunnels and sawdust, and about a 1000 ants!..--some of the ants were over an inch long, and could bite !..

I also found about a million more of those huge black ants living behind a piece of hardboard I had lying against the steel arches, and they had made a nest at the bottom of the arch, there was so many ants I had to use a shovel to pick up the thousands I killed with gas and carb cleaner..

I learned not to store any more firewood inside the garage that I can burn that day,and to chuck in any wood in the stove right away I suspect might have ants in it.....several of the huge cherry trees in my yard have been taken down by those ants too--one barely missed hitting my car when the tree broke in half, about 8 feet off the ground...

ya I got my firewood in my old pickup trailer 8ft box with cap .

its high off the ground / dry under the cap / MOBILE with it being a trailer. :deal:

its parked just outside my shop door for the heating season . then goes out behind the shop till next season.

back on thread point tho............

today was the end of the light work for now.

tool box single 4ft florescent light inside it .

then BAM ! ! ! 12 4ft 2 row l.e.d. fixtures 4 per row of 3 rows . :cool1::cool1::cool1:
