when I go to start my truck now, It just cranks over. There ISnt spark. The ignition wire is good. the plug wires are Good. The Plug wires are on correctly. I cranked the engine to TDC I Believe. And dropped the distributor in. Tightened down the distributor. put the #1 plug back in. and still nothing.

well make sure you are not 180 degrees out. and be positive on that no.1 being on TDC. If you have sufficient fuel air and spark... thats all it can really be.

little more detail, I took a brand new piece of rubber hose. about 3/8 circumference stuck it in the #1 cylinder, hand cranked the engine till I felt the hose being "smashed" then pulled it out and cranked it a Very little much more.

then dropped the Distributor in. the rotor was pointing at the #1 plug on the cap.
and yes i am getting fuel, even tried starting fluid

Make sure you are putting the dizzy right..are you aiming the rotor to the desired plug wire and then installing the dizzy??? you have to turn it further back of the desired plug you may notice when you get dizzy gears does contact with the camshaft gear the rotor turns a bit till it sits completly. also make sure you get the cap installed right.

well when I dropped the dizzy in. the rotor was kinda pointing at the #2 plug wire. then when It was dropped in It pointed at the #1. also the cap. I set it on then twisted it a little, to make sure it was seated right. Then I Put the 4 screws on

There are two TDCs, one exhaust and one compression. Hold your thumb over the plug hole while you bar the engine over. When your thumb is bumped off by the escaping compression continue rotating the engine until the timing mark lines up. THAT is TDC compression.

Drop in the distributor so that the rotor points left of straight toward. The points on the reluctor should just pass the teeth on the pickup coil, just barely. Number one and eight posts on the distributor cap line up perpendicular to the valve cover and at the front of the cap.

okay I did that but now aparently I am Not getting spark.. so

is that my dizzy/cap/rotor?
I am getting Juice through the ign. wire to the dizzy.

whats the condition of the cap and rotor? said it was a swapped motor, new components on ignition setup? any carbon tracking to indicate shorts or worn components?

cap and rotor are brand new I just bought them and the same problem exists. I am getting power to the ignition wire still.

brand new battery also

Check all your grounds, also have you checked the battery under a load. I know you said its new but if it had an internal short it will read 12 volts just sitting and then go to sh** after you put it under load.

I added a new ground from the block to the frame. Still nothing. the battery is good.

If you already have tdc set right and the dizzy on top the engine and still no spark then if it were me check th grounds (engine block-frame, battery-frame, battery body) also there are some dizzys that need a ground from the coil.... I've had 2 dizzys and only one of them needed the damn ground the other run fine without it.

Someone mentioned a short I have a coil that reads perfect on diagnosis but the sucker don't work... So you may have something like that even the module can be the problem..

One more thing my dizzy is tricked out I'm running a spark bos directly through it but when I takes ir off I need to put a plug wich is useless it has nothing on the other end but if I don't put. It in it doesn't send a spark its just a damn ground and a socket from the modules end..

Hope any of this helps

i checked all grounds. added extras. And Just to clarify. this is my old Dizzy. with a brand new cap and rotor. the Ignition module is good. coil tested good. But!

The block Thats in my truck now. Had the old school points style Dizzy in it. mine is HEI
would that make a difference?

okay. well I replaced the ignition Pickup also. But I had my PS pump leaning on the block. and It seemed to be Arcing between the pump and the block. But no spark from the Plug wires..

The style of the dizzy shouldn't matter

Is the rotor ok? Clean the tip what aboub the bushing and carbon piece on top of the cap under the coil is it good and making contact with the coils end????? Have someone turn the key and listen careully focusing on the coil my bad coil emits a loud tick and it bad check tha as well
