I don't know what to say about this one...

That is all very possible. Did you know in the late 80's/early 90's you could order a chevy/gmc with a b-series cummins? Ive learned that GM didnt document everything. And anything is possible.

Can anybody make out what the badge on the fender says?

I don't know whether a 70 could be had semi floating .

I always knew Moser made axles and ends to turn a leaf spring truck full floating 60 rear into a semi floating Mopar retrofit musclecar axle by chopping the ends off and welding on the plates for the axle retainers .

I bet this truck has a 14bsf in it .

TH400? Really? C'mon. So the badge is photoshopped?

I don't understand where you are coming from on this comment? The TH400 was probably the most common auto trans for this model of truck.

I also find it very unlikely you could order a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a B-series Cummins. They are probably thinking of the larger medium duty GMC vehicles like dumptrucks, or the "Frito Lay" vans that had the 4BT.

Again, anything is possible but if I had to put money on it I would say that truck simply had the TH400 and 14SF rear axle.

The rear axle is clearly a semi floater, the motor is advertised as a 6.2L, if any upgrades were done to the transmission it would likely have been a TH475 for it to be a direct bolt up to the 6.2L and still be a 3 speed transmission. Unless anyone knows of a direct replacement Allison 3 speed transmission? All of the older Allisons I know about are SAE bolt patterns.

Yup, the 'P' series vans could be had with the 4BT...but no 'B' series engines were ever used in the C/K pick-ups from the factory. Also, if that is an Allison tag on the fender it's more than likely a previous owners joke.

Without pic's of the tranny it's pretty safe to assume it's a regular old 6.2/TH400/SF14 C20 pick-up.

I sent the guy a polite email with some information on his truck and even gave him a link to CK5 to help id his transmission and axle... but he wanted to be rude...

My email:
I don't know who gave you information about the transmission and the
rear axle, but you should do a little more research. www.ck5.com can
help you get real information about your transmission and rear axle...
No reason you should not get $1500 for your truck, but it doesn't have
the parts you claim it does.

GM did not use the Allison transmission until the late 90's behind the
6.6L Duramax. It is also an overdrive, computer controlled
transmission. Stock, your truck came with a TH400, but there is also a
TH475 HD version that may have been swapped in from a larger truck if
someone wanted to.

The rear axle is clearly the stock 14 bolt semi floater as well, the
Dana 70 is a full floater and was only used in the 1 ton trucks with
the dually pickup bed. All of the 3/4 ton trucks from 1981-87 have the
lightweight semi float axle (no bearing hub sticking out through the
rear wheel).

Good luck with your sale though.

And the reply:
Actually it does have and allison tranny and a dana 70 that was all add in the late 90's so why dont you mind your own business and dont worry about it then. If you have anything else that you want to say then keep it too yourself because obviously you dont know **** about MY TRUCK thanks for your input but your wrong.

I smell spam for some reason...

Also, if that is an Allison tag on the fender it's more than likely a previous owners joke.

The badge looks like it is an exhaust package (headers and pipes)... but the pics suck so it is hard to read. The seller does list chrome headers as one of the aftermarket items.

Still researching...and have not found any 3 speed Allison trannys.

Report it as spam or misrepresented items and move on. Guy's a tool obviously.

GM Power products

May 1983—GM sells Allison Gas Turbine Division; Allison becomes part of newly formed GM Power Products and Defense Operations Group

Here is proof.

This obviously isn't a factory option, and I'm not even sure GM was even directly involved (there is no offiical GM logos on the paperwork...though I know that doesn't guarantee anything). What is the source of this paperwork? Was it just some aftermarket conversion company?

I have no doubts that there were GM pickups running around with different engines and such but all of the previous posts stated it was never available "from the factory".

There are no 3 speed Allisons that are small enough to work behind the 6.2 in a pickup. If it were an Allison the most likely one would be an AT540
which is a 4 speed and would probably require modifications to the floor to fit without some sort of body lift. No sf Dana 70s.
