I recently bought my Jimmy, was originally going to fix her up and sell her, but fell in love with it, and it had a rear seat (which my ford did not) and just rode better, and got a HELL of a lot better mileage (my ford has a 390) so my wife and I decided to sell the ford and keep the jimmy, and we're glad we made the decision, Midnight (my son named her) is now part of this family, there are a few things I have a little bit of work to do on the ol girl, she has a few small rot spots, but nothing that can't be replaced or patched quick and called good, with a new paint job to boot.

I'm including some pictures, you may not believe me if I told you I only paid $700 cash for it in running and driving condition.

Please share your thoughts.

Some kids went through alleyways with BB guns a couple years ago, and unfortunately my truck (before I owned it) fell as one of their victims.

I installed my GT Steering wheel my buddy sold me, the original wheel was too big (I'm a short fat guy, with back problems) and I needed something different.

welcome to ck5 and good score on the jimmy.700 is a great prece for one of these trucks in running shape.i was gona say get rid of the running boards but if you are a short fat guy with back problems they will probably help you get in easier.:p:

not too bad for 700.00

but I hate to tell you... the fun has just started....

soon you will fall into one of two groups.... diesel or gas...

diesel in the K5s get great mileage (6.2l) and do well for crawlin, muddin and high rpm is the gas guys domain...

oh and welcome

I was in the marines for a few years and got ****ed up bad, so yea, they help a lot, in fact, they were a huge selling point, my wife is 5ft tall and she knows I'll end up lifting it, so I think you see my point.

but yea, $700 is too good to let down for this truck, theres almost no rust/rot, a day and the required tools and items and I will have no more rust or rot, will just need a paint job after that.

There was a CUCV for sale in Nebraska, I ran down there with cash in hand, and I was 10 minutes too late, not even kidding, i wonder, can you drop a 6.2 in a gas rig after changing the lines and a few other things? I really want a diesel

yes you can put in a diesel... guys on these forums do it all the time...

they even put in cummings 4bt and 6bt into the rigs.. but that is more work than a 6.2l or 6.5l

the wonderful thing about gm, interchangablitiy

and I am a noob.. so yah.. the pros can tell you more..

Thanks Doc, I was talking to my wife about it, she said no, but I may do it anyways, I'd like to grab a wrecked CUCV or something like that (no need to destroy a perfectly good CUCV) and transfer it all to mine, harness and all to run the 12/24 system in my truck.

Hopefully a elder user can spark in some helpful hints.

I would not convert to 12/24, but I would swap in the engine and trans (if you want)

The 12/24 from a cucv is good when it works, painful when it doesnt.

Anywho, there is only a few things on a CUCV that is actually 24v... like the starter.

And you wife might change her mind when your K5 gets better than 20mpg.

Welcome to the board. Good score for 700 bones. So other then fixing what needs to be fix what are your plans for "The build"? Cause a build is coming wether you may know it or not. It's a sickness, a desease, AN ADDICTION! What ever you do decide to do with her, one major thing you MUST do is keep her running. I, like many others are doing the major full custom build and have not had a running rig for years. YES YEARS! Don't do that type of build. Do things where it will be down for a day or two at the most.

Other then that just enjoy fixing it up. If your going to wheel it mildly put a 6 point cage in it. If it's going to be a DD/light trail truck, meaning just driving in the dirt and very mild wheeling a cage is not necessary. Of course if your gonna wheel harder then that have the cage be one of the priority safety things you do first. Most guys lift them, big tires, everything that makes then look bad ass and wheel bad ass but safety seems to come last. Thats just my .02 cents. Good luck with her and enjoy.

Most my plans do not call for down time, I can't afford even a day of downtime it seems, I have 2 growing boys, and a wife whos car has been an electrical NIGHTMARE.

My first to dos are to cut all her cancer off and patch them up, re-do the carpet (going with a thin-ish home carpet), she has/had the red interior, but it was all torn up, I'm changing it all black seeing as I not only have the perfect excuse to do it, but the perfect canvas if you will, the tinting needs attention, the previous owner put a cheap CHEAP tint and it's gone to a......PURPLE, I got a stereo in it, but no actual speakers, I'm running a jumper system (home speakers for the time being)

I do want to lift it, my brothers said they'd help me (my older bro had a lifted 91 Blazer he built) and put some 33s under it.

the motor is fine, but my buddy Georgie offered me a BUILT 350, for CHEAP, but I'd much rather go with a 6.2 swap, but not sure, the wife said NO to that, but I'll see what I can do about getting her to go along with it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
