Well today I sold my dad my Jeep with a blown head gasket for about 500$ and a .38 then he traded it for a 68 K20 (see my post in the parts forum). :doah: Well we decided that it was going to have to hit the road to the scrap yard. Well it has a 350 and I have been looking for one for a project of mine and it runs. It smoked and seemed crappy to start out with but after a little run time the motor runs pretty decent. Is there anything I should look for to make sure its a good motor. I think the only reason it ran a little rough to start of with was because it has a FILTHY 2 barrel carb.

well i kinda wanna sell my mom. dad's too cool to get rid of. wonde how much i could sell her for. truth be told i'd probably get paid to keep her so i might just do that

If it smoked when it fired up initially, it most likely needs new valve seals. Pretty common with SBC because of the angle the motor sits at when it is installed. That may have been what caused it to run rough when you first started it up.

RUN IT! Old chevy small blocks are kinda like old VW engines, if it runs, its good if it wont run, rebuild it.

I guess I should explain the "smoke" I thinkit was from old gas it stunk like nasty old gas. As for it running poorly to start I think is in the carb because there was alot of gas pouring in there it was bubling in one of the barrels of the carb then I reved it up a little then it smoothed out and started to run properly. What should I do for some low dollar mods?? I was thinking perhaps a set of inexpesive headers and definatly a 4 barrel carb but how much would a cam or anything to "freshen" this motor up. Lets here some opinions.
