So im bored at home the other night planning upgrades for my 87 Jimmy and i get on craigslist and start looking for parts that im after. I punch in 14 bolt into the search bar and browse the local selection with few results. I was running another program and had to refresh so i hit the refresh button and theres a new listing under 14bolt.

1993 Black suburban 2500
Detroit lockers
Rebuilt 4l80e, edelbrock 454 crate motor, transfer case, 10.5 14Bolt rear with a detroit locker, and driveshafts, all with 1700 Miles.
6" suspension, 3" body
had 38's but is not rolling on 34's....38's with wheels were sold.
Black semi-clean exterior stock body

I see this and call the guy immediatley and set up a look. He was about 60 miles away but was willing to stay up so i could take a look. I get there and talk the talk for a while and its now time to deal:rotfl:

We haggle back and forth for a few and then he caved and sold me the truck for $700. Thats right $700.

Back story is that the truck hasnt run in 3-4 years because he got a brand new truck and let the burb just sit because he was traveling.

All the parts have low miles as confirmed by all the builders(friends of mine) that did the work. His story was legit.

I call AAA and tell them my car is broken down and get a tow 60+ miles back home for free! Tipped the driver and unloaded my new $700 Truck:D

The funny part is that back in my fresh out of school days i did the same thing with a built Jeep wrangler i dropped some money into. Sold it for 2K and had 12K in it easy. It was running bad and i didnt have the money to fix it or the will or want to work on it so i let it go and used the 2K for the downpayment on a brand new car. I always regreted that.

This time i was on the purchasing end!:eek1:

Will post pics in a few minutes of my $700 truck!

I ran out of that a long time ago! The kid was mentally done with the truck in his mind. I could tell because its the same approach i took when i let my jeep go. Similar age and scenario.

You hear of these "Unicorn" deals on craigslist but never actually find one.....I just found mine.

Ill try to take some pics of the Motor tomorrow.

Its far from perfect and will need quite a bit of work but im not complaining for the price i paid!

Sounds like a sweet deal. What are your plans for the truck?

Well at this point its going to be our tow vehicle and a fun weekend toy for off road adventures, camping, etc.

I just started rebuilding my Jimmy after it was sitting for the last 10 years so now im debating on what to do. At first my plan was to put all the gear out of the Burb in the Jimmy and use the Jimmy to pull my travel trailer. After talking to the local truck shop today everyones opinion was to leave the Jimmy on the 33's (brand new) and leave the 10 bolt etc and only do light offroading with it and use it for my daily driver. If i want to do some heavier offroading i can take the suburban once i go pick up the tires and wheels and get it running right. I think the suburban will be a much better truck to haul the trailer with so i may be stuck with two trucks for a while.

The JD2 should be here next week so i plan to get to work building roof racks for both trucks as well as bumpers. I really didnt want to lift the Jimmy too much or get too radical with it since its got the classic square body look and is pretty clean for its age. Now i have a toy i can get as crazy as i want with!

Im sure ill change my mind 10 times by tomorrow! If you read this and its friday disregard whats written above because the plan has changed by now:D

I would actually prefer the body lift to be removed. I would like the 6" suspension and 35" Tires. It has 4.56 gears so im hoping that the 35's wont be too small and be running higher than optimal rpm's at freeway speeds? Im sure the 4.56 gears will help pull the big travel trailer down the road.

I have always liked bigger trucks but i dont think i could bring myself to shell out good money for huge tires when 80% of the time the truck will be on road and 20% will be offroad.

I ave always heard from friends that a body lift is much easier to install than it is to remove? Can anyone explain this? I mean i understand the concept because ive installed several body lifts but i dont think it would be that big of a deal.

I would think that the biggest hassle of removing a body lift is reversing all of the little "incidentals" that you may have had to modify like extended steering shaft, modified shift linkage, extended fuel filler hose, etc.

Not the easiest to do, but not impossible either.

i will say one cool thing about body lifts is that the underside of the body seems to stay fairly clean and the extra room to work on the truck is kinda nice. If for some reason i do keep the body lift i definitely plan to drop part of the rear floor and weld in a undermount box to hold amps and tools, etc with the appearance of a stock floor.

If i decide to pull the motor out to repaint and clean it up i will most likely remove the body lift at that time.

I agree with the others, ditch the BL. Too goofy without larger tires.

Yeah awesome truck, nice find, good price, congrats!

Now ditch the body lift, make hte body look like an afterthought, looks really weird on that truck. Like someone built a whole subframe under the original one.

Gotcha a good deal there.:waytogo:
I have them same wheels on my DD and two of them cracked on the spokes. Just give you a heads up.
