I got a deal on a new rearend! and front end.

I was telling a guy I know about my 10 bolt blues, and the stupid 3.08 gears. He said he has a 10 bolt front axle, and a 12 bolt rearend. They already have 3.73 gears in them. He wants $100 bucks for both of them.

if they are in good shape and u are just looking for lower gearing and no added strength, go for it. Its a lot cheaper than gettin them regeared...you might wanna make sure the bearings and all are good in them before u buy them...no need in gettin a "deal" then having to dump as much money into them as it would have been to just get someone to regear what u have.

also, if I go to buy this rearend. I'm gonna pop the covers off and take a look. What should I be looking for? I hope he didn't weld the spider gears or whatever it's called together so it's posi.

If they are in a vehicle, then drive it and listen for noises.

Otherwise, look for chunks floating about, broken or missing teeth on the ring and pinion/spiders. Look for rust - a little bit is probably OK, but a lot I would pass on. You will want the gear lube to look like gear lube, not a milkshake. Pass on the milkshake....
