Now I just need to put it in :D

I paid $150.. probably a little too much all considering but I really needed it :o

Glass is great, electric motor works(just need to wire it up), and the only thing wrong with it is there is a small gash in the body at the top of the gate(almost like someone hit it on something), going to cover it with silicone for now to keep the water out.

Anyone ever put one of these in a truck that never had a power window? Any ideas on running the wire?

The other thought I had was possibly moving the guts from this tailgate into my current one which is in nice shape, just nothing works on it..

And I need to figure out a key, the guy I bought it from didn't have one :doah:

A locksmith should be able to re-key the lock cylinder to match your existing door key.

Hmm, how come I never thought of that :o

Any ideas on whether or not swapping tailgate guts would be a good idea?

I'm not sure. I bought a power tailgate too with the idea of swapping the guts out (it's the wrong color as my truck) but I never got around to it. I think the window got broken in it during shipping. That's bad news, as I've *heard* that the power glass is somehow different than the non-power glass. Something to do with the way it's connected to the window regulator.

Regardless, I'm looking for a half-cab kit for mine, and if I find one, I'll have the cab blocked off behind the front seats and just swap my tailgate for a pickup gate.

Search around here and in the body forum here on CK5 and I'm sure you'll find a more definitive answer.

all the innards of the tailgate can be swapped. however, it's unfortunate that you dropped the coin on that because i've got a decent shape manual crank tailgate to give away soon. :(

I may have mistyped... I have a stock manual installed, but I have a power-gate in storage.

Eh...No biggie. I think it's 2-tone red and white. I never opened the box  I just vaguely remember buying it off eBay.

I'll sell it off or better yet, donate it to a brother in need. I got my wiring harness from a dude for free, and was told to "pay it forward". It's about time I repaid my debt. ;)

Doh! Oh well, thanks :)

So what does the swap involve? Pretty easy or no?

Found a good bit of info searching for the last hour or so :D

This page has some good pictures on how to do it..

The only other question I have is, are the shells the same?

yeah, the shells are the same. i've never had a power tailgate apart, but the manual crank ones are simple inside. it might be helpful to have a second person there when you pull/install the glass - but i'm sure it can be done with out a second person. i guess you'll want to have plenty of cardboard boxes (or something) stacked up to support the weight of the glass while you detatch it from the mechanism inside.

I'll hopefully have my Grandpa helping me :)

Need to do a little repair on a stress crack, thinking of just welding plates on and call it good :haha:

I got the top back on it today.. must say after doing the patch work on the exhaust it no longer smells bad in the cab! Heat works great too! Just need to get the carb done and I could go play in the snow ;)
