I swapped a TBI manifold, distributor, wire harness, all sensors, and ECM onto an '86 small block.

this '86 small block resides in my '74 k10.

the engine is low mileage, and i'm pretty sure it is running a stock cam.

So here's the problem: the engine runs real nice when its not in gear. i can rev it up real nice. it does stumble once in awhile.

when i put it in gear, and try to drive it, it runs horrible and stumbles a lot.

the computer was originally running an '88 5.7 liter SBC and a 700r4.
i pulled all the TBI equipment from the junkyard.

the transmission i'm running is a 400. i don't have the TCC wires connected to anything since the 400 is not equipped with a lockup torque converter.

i checked the SES light for codes, and all i'm getting is code 12.

does anybody have any thoughts on this?

did i possibly grab a ECM that had a burnt chip in it, or maybe something that i'm overlooking?

edit: i didn't install the A.I.R. system from the '88 into my truck. i'm pretty sure that doesn't really matter though.:dunno:

Your best bet is to do some data logging and see what everything is doing (or not doing) then go from there. I would also suggest checking your fuel pressure.

Make sure you time the ignition without the timing wire connected. Other than the other stuff brought up, hook it up to a datalogger and see if the sensors are all working right. Also, did you hookup the vss?

yes, i timed it with the timing wire disconnected. set it to spec at 0*.

VSS is hooked up.

i'm gonna go buy a data logger right now.
