I got the headers on, now what?

Sounds like you are getting there. Make sure that the new cat has labeling that matches CA law and that it specifically fits your application in the magniflow California catalog. Also, make sure you get the AIR injection ports welded onto your headers or replace them with the proper headers.

Cheers,
Rufus

I think you guys from CA should all write to your state lawmakers on a weekly basis and tell them how full of poo they are.:D

It isn't just the state. Most of the big cities in CA run afoul of the federal Clean Air Act - the air pollution is too high. Therefore CA is forced to reduce air pollution. That isn't to say that the enviro-nazis don't hold a lot of power as well.

If your truck did not come from the factory WITH dual exhaust, even out in Calil, you're not technically allowed to change it.

You need a legal headder for emissions.

now that's not saying you couldn't get bigger tubes, run the Y-pipe into a 3.5" tube, into a big/higher flowing Cat, then run duals out of that or just a but tubed setup through a big muffler.

New law passed January 1st 2009 that the catalytic convertor MUST be the original diameter pipe that came on the vehicle and the CAT must be located within 3" of the original location and MUST be Ca. approved with the CARB EO number and also must have the part number embossed on the CAT in 1/2" letters visible from 50 feet away.

Also if the vehicle did not come with dual exhaust you may not install dual exhaust even if you installed another CAT (which is also illegal now).

This nonsense all sounds retarded. Wouldn't two exhausts, each with a converter, be more enviro friendly than a single exhaust with one converter? Think about it, overall amount of exhaust flow should be about the same, but there would be TWO converters rather than one. I don't get it, and I feel sorry for you poor saps that live in that state.

I agree - once you are warmed up. Two converters would take longer to heat up and they don't do much until they are hot.

You guys really think everyone in CA follow the smog regulations.

If you mean smog shops, they do if they value their smog license and what little money that might make. A shop in California that gets caught passing an "illegal" car gets to pay up to a $50,000 fine, the person doing the smog gets to pay up to a $25,000 fine and the person who's vehicle it is gets to pay up to a $10,000 fine AND the shop loses their smog license usually for a minimum of 3 months to a year.

I'm not saying there aren't shops out there doing illegal smogs but there are FAR FEWER than there were 15 years ago because of the stringent penalties these days. Once they start taking photos of the vehicle on the dyno then i'm pretty sure almost ALL illegal smogs will be a thing of the past (i've heard that might start either this year or next).

No wonder cali is broke. That's alot of work to keep a smoker off the street.Do they check any safety related items like brake pad thickness, working lights and safe tires or are they only concerened with the air? Do you guys need emmissions check for off highway only rigs too? Is that what a green sticker is?It would be worth taking up residence somewhere else to reg the vehicles and just "work" in cali. You poor fellas:(

California DOES NOT have any kind or yearly or otherwise vehicle inspections. The only time you're required to have a brake and lamp inspection is if you buy a vehicle from the junk yard and want to register it again as a reconstructed/rebuilt vehicle or if your vehicle is totalled in an accident and you decide you want to keep it and repair and keep driving it then you also need the brake and lamp inspection. The ONLY thing Cali seems to care about is the AIR QUALITY and keeping GUNS away from as many people as they can.

Are some rural CA counties still exempt from smog checks?

BTW, unsafe vehicles reduce pollution. They eventually remove old vehicles from the road, and keep the population down. Win-win.

There are several areas that are exempt still.

Don't forget about all the nit-picky speeding tickets they write.

All this and a high cost of living and people are still moving out there in droves. I don't get it.

Actually, I think more people are moving out than in now. I grew up there and will never move back - well maybe up by Redding..
