So I was thinking about other than how to mount it what accessories I need. I was wondering if I could build a self recovery device with a disk blade. I what slings and shackles but do I need a snatch block for a 12000 winch?

The snatch block doubles the force that you can apply on your truck with your winch

You might not need it but it can't hurt

I was forced into it. I was told I wouldn't be "cool" anymore.

Now to build a hidden mount, change the cab and clip, finish the high steer and hydro assist. almost done.

You guys think a single battery and 60 amp alternator will be enough? Or do I a second battery? or do I need a bad ass alternator too?

I'm curious also, all I've got is a group 27 marine battery and a stock alternator, not sure on the amperage

My 9500ti is powered by a 120 amp and a 600cca battery. Its just not enough. Especially at night with the headlamps on. I think either a battery or a big hi king alternator would be a good idea. It still works, I just have to winch a little, then charge, then winch some more.

Also make sure your cable is rated high enough for a double line pull.

Because I have a snatch block, I use it every time I can. It just makes sense. Also, a second battery is better than a bigger alt.

I run a warn 12k, dual diehard platinums, and 100 amp factory alt. Though I haven't noticed a problem, I plan to add several lights to the rig. Looking at a 200 amp or more soon

I bet it draws a lot less amps with a snatch, at a lower pull weight.

Duh, what? Do you mean this as a blanket statement for winch use?

Because that second battery will deplete, fairly quickly under heavy load, and then it's no bloody good. The higher output alternator, on the other hand, would continue to output more amperage into the electrical system and charge the one battery and run the winch.

(I do like the idea of an auxiliary battery for winching so you don't kill the starting battery, and there's the whole thing about high-zoot alternators not outputting their max at idle ... but a second battery isn't a panacea in and of itself.)

I gots a hand throttle, I always idle it way but when I need to it charge higher.

agreed, went to a full serp setup and haven't looked back

felt a higher amp alternator and PSC pump would probably tax the v belts, but lots of guys are running 'em

I have a couple serpentine setups, and the price would be very reasonable.

What does my 1990 K3500 have? I forget.

Also I have that 454 Vortec I bought.
