The most frightening thing I ever had to do in my life...was watching a d60 dually rig getting crushed at the scrap yard. I asked if I could purchase the axle..the owner said, "They no longer have torches (insurance was too much)..I can't let you play in the yard like before..sorry it's next to head for the crusher!" I'm not sure why I watched..I know I'm going to have nightmares!:doah:

especially when ya coulda had a free drw dana 60..
woulda been a quick $400 for ya when you sell.

why didnt ya have your torch with you:confused:
i carry mine wherever i go,

j/k i really dont, but i would be alot cooler if i did:weld:

How could you just sit by and watch the destruction take place????
You could have thrown your body over it, and demand it be removed.
You could have sabotaged the equipment doing the destruction.
You could have set your self on fire as a distraction.

How sad....what a loss, It leaves me feeling so full of sorrow:

I'm always carrying around my "to go" bag of tools in the trunk of my car for just such occassions. I would have told the guy there's a cold pack in it for you if that one can be set aside until the next day.
which would have bought you enough time to grab your tools and get that sucker out of there.

I've done bussiness with these guys for years..they know me.
They can't sell anything. They were affraid I'd get hurt and sue!:rolleyes:

These are all very reasonable, rational things to do in a situation like this. Actually very responsible actions aswell. But, I think I would thrown somebody elses body over it, and demand it be removed.
You could have sabotaged the equipment doing the destruction.
Or have set somebody else on fire as a distraction instead.

:D:haha::haha::haha:

i got to save one from the crusher pile 1 time.

paid 60 bucks for it. and thay moved the truck to the yard and fliped it over for me.this helped me pull it with hacksaw for ubolts/drag link and socket & braker bar for 2 bolts. then loaded it for me also. :D

even saved the th400 k case and fig 8 32 spline 205. for 125 bucks and loaded for me. :D

that 205 is all remaned and in my doubler setup in my project ( stubby ) build. and in the tech section write up . http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253000

This is why I carry a cordless sawzall and a couple torch blades with me everywhere I go :D

It's really sad that the world had got to the point that they won't let the usuals pull parts for fear of suing. Makes you wanna just punch someone :mad:

so lets turn it into the how you saved parts from certain doom thread.

i had to buy a d70 rear axle in order to get the front thrown in for free, cause "theres something wrong with it ring and pinion whatever, i guess if you really want that thing." pesky auto hubs at it again.
thanks to them i got a free d60.

I had a friend that worked at a big scrap yard and he said there were barges of military 2.5 and Chevy 1.25 ton trucks that would come in and go to the hammer mill.

The scrap hauler came by my old work to pick up our junk and he had a Dana 60 rear and a 14 bolt missing one side bearing hub in the back of his truck, I gave him $40 for the two axles, took the cover off the 14 bolt and it was a 4.56 Detroit.

I wish I had a case of beer...I had everything else!:doah:
Beer talks money walks!:doah:

I could have called the main yard to see if they would save the axle..
They could have sent a wrecker to pick-up the rig..I bet they would have wanted $600 for the axle. Single wheel axle..I would've made more of an effort!:wink1:

Since I live on the main drag that scrappers travel on..I've been known for jumping in my car and chasing them down, if I see something of interest.

Scrapyards = a$$holes!..

Exactly the situation I have been in here!--for decades I was allowed to wander in the scrapyard and select anything I saw there I wanted like a tractor,truck parts,etc,and they would haul it up front with the forkloader,and they would sell it for about double what they gave for it as scrap..I got some really good deals on stuff..

Now,the entire place is fenced in with chain link fence abd barbed wire on top--NO one is allowed beyond the gates unless your driving in to dump a load of scrap,and if you try taking anything out with you ,you'll be told to put it back,or they'll want a ridiculous price,like 200 bucks for a riding mower for it--they often crush things like that as soon as it touches the ground with the loader to discourage any "pickers"..--only a priveledged few who scrap many tons or cars daily are allowed to "bend the rules" now..some immigrants who were picking through the scrap one day got wounded (probably accidentally on purpose)they sued and collected a huge judgement--now due to "insurance regulations" no one is allowed beyond the gates..

I hear the same story all across the USA lately,old time scrap yarsds where you could find "treasures" are either shutting out any pickers,or are being bought up by large operations and no more will we be able to go to a "mom and pop" yard and find anything..it really sucks..:( I have seen a LOT of desireable stuff getting scrapped lately too..and the guys hauling it in are just as bad as the scrap dealers..one guy had a NICE Sears Suburban in his truck at the gate one day--I offered him 75 bucks if he'd haul it to my house 3 miles up the street..:"Nope--cant be bothered"..I watched them push it off the truck and smashed the grill and hood,worth a hundred to a collector (or ME!),and they laughed..I wanted to peuke..:mad:..
