I HATE 10 BOLTS! gov-bomb question

Now, what do you guys think is my best plan? I want to keep it 6 lug as I have 2 sets of tire and wheels for it.

Sorry for the long post.

My vote goes 100 percent to finding a semi float 14 bolt. The first Chevy I drove was a suburban with 8 lug version- it was driven hard for years. They are out there in 6 lug. I put one under the back of my blazer years ago, and have been more than satisfied. I paid 500 bucks to have it delivered, which I thought was a bit high, I did have to weld new spring perches on (cheap- just need grinder and welding capability) and even the factory gov-bomb has never given me or my friends probs in this axle. Mine came out of mid 1990s z71 pick up- it is just slightly wider than the origional 10 bolt. Its almost exactly the same track width as the front- I like the way it looks and zero complaints about turning radius and handling. I did not need a conversion driveshaft, or u joint, or new flange- the stock driveshaft bolted right to it. My 6 lug wheels slapped right on- needed metric lug nuts though. It had about 70 thousand miles on it it when I got it- I popped the cover- everything was there on the inside and looked alright- cover back on and started installing.
60 thousand hard miles and 7-8 years later zero problems. (I changed the oil once or twice I think). If you aren't rebuilding the entire truck, I think the semi float 14 is almost perfect choice to end the 10 bolt rear end probs. I would over pay for one again in a heart beat. I would grind of old perches and pay someone to weld the new ones on if I had to.

Well I found out that it just had an wheel bearing / axle problem. Just one side, but the other is showing the miles. But at least I have a little more time. ...
I am going to have to do something about it in the near future, but not right now. I like having time to make a decision and find parts.

fyi I just towed a 99-up last night . his rear 10 bolt locked up in middle of intersection .

keep eye open for 14sf and get it ready for bolt in .

Well, I stumbled across one today. I got it from a guy that I have dealt with for a few years. He didn't know for sure what the ratio was or the exact condition, but he dropped it off and didn't want any money until I checked it and put it in. COOL! Well , unfortunately since it have been in a wreck, one of the axles had part of the c-clip shoulder broken off. And it's a 4:10, but it has a gov-loc. ... Crap! But now I have some parts. ....

Ok guys, so I got another 9.5 14 bolt. It's 6 lug and the wide 4x4 version. It has 4:10's, gov-loc and a good looking gear set. So I figured that I may as well use it since I got to keep the parts from the first axle too.

I have located a front 10 bolt to match.

But now I wonder, since I have a good condition gov-loc sitting here, should I put it in the front axle before the swap????

Is there anyone that can tell me the pros and cons of trying a gov-loc in the front along with one in the rear? ??

Thanks for your input!

covered before long time a go in a coloradok5 land long ago . . . .

short answer = bad stuff with gov-loc in front.
