I hate this....**UPDATED WITH PICTURES!!**

hey what headers did you use?
I used the Flowtech Afterburner headers. They are made by holley, not by dynomax as previously stated. They are a little different design than standard headers, and supposedly give a real flat hp/tq curve....

Well, I got the headers and intake on in time to go wheeling this weekend and had a great time. I managed not to break anything so thats always a plus.

Ok...so I pulled the ac compressor, and air injection crap when I did these installs. When I start the truck, it truns like complete crap for about 5-6 seconds (almost cuts out and dies but barely stays with it), then smooths right out to normal and throws the check engine light on. While driving, there is sometimes a hesitation like the motor wants to bog down, but if I get on it a little harder, it opens up and pulls just like it should...smooth as silk. Sometimes it hesitates and is a little slow if I romp it from a dead stop, and sometimes it just picks up and moves. I dont know what the problem is. Im thinking the 02 sensor isnt reading right with the open headers, or the computer chip cant keep up. No matter if the truck is hot or cold, every time I start it it has to run crappy for about 5 seconds before smoothing out. What would cause this, and what is causing the hesitation/bogging down? I havent pulled the code yet, but am going to get around to that probably tomorrow.

BTW- For whoever asked about what the power difference is, with the new headers and intake, its like a whole new truck. It wasnt slow by any means before, but now it pulls really hard. I always noticed that with the stock intake and exhaust manifolds on, under wot the motor would seem to die off and not get enough air/fuel at the higher rpm's, resulting in less power the higher the rpm. Not so with the new stuff. The higher the rpm's climb, the more it pushes your head back in the seat. Its a nice feeling.:D It also feels like the throttle is 200% more responsive. For the price of the intake and headers (pretty cheap if you look around) I highly suggest doing them. It will leave you grinning when you get on it.

nobody stated that they were made by Dynomax, Fil commented on them being made by FlowTech, and stated that he had Dynomax.

did you install the O2 sensor? what are you running on it for exhaust now? hooked back up to stock exhaust? is the EGR still in place? throwing any codes?

Sorry, I thought he was saying that the afterburners were made by dynomax because he never stated the flowtech name.

Yes, the 02 sensor is installed. The exhaust is just open headers as of now, that is why I think the 02 sensor just isnt working right. Im going to buy a 3 wire heated type before I go out again...and at least get some mufflers on there or something. The egr is in place and it is throwing a code as I stated earlier. I will go check the code sometime today and check back with yall. Thanks for the help.

you problem probably lies within the o2 sensor, the lack of back pressure, and the fact that its a non-heated sensor.put some pipes on it, and i bet it goes away.

You must not have had fun then :D

I wish I could run those afterburner headers, but they don't fit with a manual tranny because of the clutch linkage. Oh well, I will just go Doug Thorley :D

I didnt take pictures during the install, but I can snap a few tomorrow (the truck isnt at my house). Ill post them up tomorrow for ya. Took it wheeling this past weekend, and it rained so underhood is kind of muddy.

As promised, I snapped some pics of the setup today. Sorry for the picture quality, but the sun was kind of funky today. Also, I just got back from a wheeling trip last weekend, so everything is muddy under there. Ill get some better pics when I clean everything off.

I took 2 more pics, but for some reason they wont upload. The last one is just a shot of the whole truck. Notice the air injection is no gone, as well as the ac compressor and bracket on the drivers side. Enjoy.

Oh, and my gooseneck has ALWAYS leaked ever since ive owned the truck. Its got a gasket and rtv on there and still leaks....

Try new gooseneck to go with new intake.:D Mine was in a spell like that kinda leaked when it felt the need:rolleyes: But broke down and bought new and no leak:D

is there much differance in power?
The power difference is night and day...honestly. In a drag race between my truck before and after, the new mods would easily pull away...and keep pulling. Low end is a nice improvement, but the power just keeps building and pushing you farther into the seat the higher the rpm's climb. The throttle response is amazing as well. I really couldnt believe the power gain...and im loving every horsepower of it....  :D

BTW- Before I used to tell people my truck would "run" (redneck term for get up and go)...and now I just tell them it screams....

hey i just wanted to say that i like your setup...also, just wanted to warn you about my experience w/ alfterburners...i had a set on my truck for about a year and a half and i had a helluva time tryin to get a good seal to the head. the flange is pretty thick, but i ended up havin to use 1/4" thick "seal for good" gaskets that were pretty expensive. also a few of the header bolts are a bitch to get to (may have contributed to the leaks). but the worst part was that after about 8 months both collectors cracked pretty bad at the tri-Y. but hell, the power curve and the fact that there long tube all for under 120-130 bucks, id do it again if i hadnt got a good deal on some ceramic coated ones...just a heads up for the possible leaks from the head flange and mabey collector...good choice of intake tho....
