I work in God's garage. He controls the heat. I think he forgot to turn it on today, it was in the single digits with the wind chill figured in.

Nevermind, it looked greyish in the garage picture. Hi-jack off. ;)

LP gas heater (35,000 BTU)....

Make sure it's a "sealed" unit, and you won't have to worry about solvent explosions.

A LOT of insulation in the garage will help keep all the expensive heat indoors.

Speaking of which, I'm off to Home Depot for some more R30 today!!! I'm up in NH so I can sympathize..... it's supposed to snow tonight.

:usaflag:

Wow Greg! You must have a good paying job to be able to afford paying for gas. Are you using bottled tanks or hooking up a line directly from underground?

Probably cheaper than the 20 lbs. LP refills.

DEFINITELY cheaper!

It's not so bad though, the garage is only 30 feet square with block construction, insulated with a dropped ceiling so it heats up quick and retains it decently. The big downfall is that my door isn't insulated.

Radiant floor heating is the way to go if you're building new.

What the hail, if I'm gonna dream a garage, it's gonna be space for 6 trucks (clear span), 10 ton overhead travelling bridge crane, 2 wood burners, 20 cu ft freezer/fridge, wake up the neighbors stereo, 3/4 bathroom. Oh, and an attached 2 bedroom house. :haha:

dont forget that heated floor. my matco dealer installed a heated driveway. can you say he has a little to much money.

My old boss has a natural gas well on his property (lives close to Lake Erie) he has the length of his county driveway heated! Needless to say every appliance is natural gas and he sells back into the grid!

Be careful with woodstoves/pellet stoves in a garage depending on how smart your insurance company is the NFPA211 says you cant do it with combustibles and an open flame. Know of a few people having lots of problems after a fire getting the coverage they thought they had. I would check with your insurance companies state regs etc.

I know some people back in Cali that did that... they had to get a special permit from the city because the garage was bigger than the house (they had it built new)...
They are retired and own an R.V. and some nice cars and since they are on the road 7-8 months out of the year they needed a nice garage to store the R.V. when they were there and the cars and such but they didn't need a big house b/c they were only there a couple months out of the year... :D
