I have a need for speed... well at least a little faster.

if the 700r4 tv cable is NOT adjusted correctly you can kill a 700r4 in less than 5 miles of driving . so make sure you read up on how to do this .

on a 700r4 its NOT a kickdown cable like the old th350 trans had .

Hopefully the trans is still OK...
My trans did not dead and is alive and well. I reattached the cable and adjusted it. I went over the hill and despite traffic was a a good speed of 50 to 55 on the up hill and I now have second gear when I am driving. The engine bog is gone and at 25 to 40 MPH the truck pulls nicely. I would still like to see better performance on the less steep hills.

Yep, skipping a gear from 1st to 3rd will give you a power bog everytime!
The TV cable controls the internal pressures, and the usual reaction to a misadjusted cable is low internal pressure which causes massive slippage in the clutch and brakes bands and quick burnup of the transmission.
The fact that your transmission survived is remarkable. Might want to pick up a lottery ticket on the way home....... Also would not hurt to pull the dipstick and check the transmission fluid for color and smell.
If its anything other than pink or seems to have a burned smell, the tranny did suffer some damage. No way to tell how much, but new fluid and a filter change might extend the life.

Also, swapping the tires will still work to let you see what it will take to get the better performance on the less steep hills.

I am looking into getting a Dana 60 front and a 14 bolt rear (Both 8lug) axles for $600 US. I don't know the gearing yet, but that will be the deciding factor in getting the axles (Both same gearing). I was really wondering how difficult would it be to do the swap? I don't have a lot of room and tools to do the swap myself, but the most qualified place to do the swap might be my local 4wheel parts store or Maui off road. I know that I would have to cover the cost of drive shafts, new wheels, springs, steering components, and other unseen costs, but I would like to know what all would be entailed in the conversion cost, labor, and parts. If there is a thread that is relevant to this a redirect to there would be appreciated. I know I said earlier that I would not want to go to 8 lugs , but the 8 lug life has been luring me in since I have seen these axles and some cool moderate builds.
