At this point only one of my doors work(been "dukes of hazzarding" it for a couple months, waiting to slip off of my sliders), one wont open and the tailgate's locking mechanism is busted real bad, to the point where getting a new tailgate is more realistic then repairing this one and i just got a line on a soft top... My truck is no longer my dd so I was thinking ditch the doors permanently and get a pickup tailgate to go along with the soft top, i dont like having doors at all but it might be a little more comfortable having the tube doors with some kind of plexiglass covering for my woman/dogs(the cops in town might ease off too!). The tube doors for sale in the vendors forum seem pretty steep, can anybody vouch if they are/arent worth it? On the other hand I would freeze my ass off big time during the winter or if i wanted to do a snow run, at the moment a tow rig is a bit out of my price range.
Does a pickup tailgate work for a k5? What years would work with my 87?
Should I just fix my door that doesnt work and get the quick release pins, junk the doors or get tube doors?

heres an idea of what we are working with

the tail gate is a great idea, if you want to make it easy on your self, use external hinges//old school, and use a bullet style up and over slideing rod thingy, 70s and 80's tailgate will work,

honestly for the doors, for your part of town, and the lack of a tow rig I would just get another set, serioulsy, somebody sometime soon I am sure is junking some, and paying 50-200 bucks aint too bad, just get manual. I love my truggy and have had tube doors from the start, a drawback is the weather and less user friendly to your passenger.

do the factory doors and just yank them when you wheel in good weather:)

I agree with supersize. And the money you save not buying tube doors can go on some other mod, there's always another mod.....

Cheap fix for that one: anti-skid tape from the hardware store. Mine from Ace has held for 2.5 years before needing replacement.

I have a set of P.I.M.P. tube doors that I won at the BlazerBash raffle. Solid product, excellent fit, easy bolt-on using factory bolts at the hinge, and I like them a lot. Weather/secure storage is a concern, though. Finally figured out how I want to mount the mirrors.

here's the plan...

1) lose the tailgate and the doors. I did years ago and haven't missed them.

2) post more pics of chicks in K5s...

all done. :thumb:

Josh you live in the DESERT!!:doah:
How often do you do snow runs? wear a jaket!
ditch the doors get a tailgate or a net?

Just buy her some goggles so she doesnt get mud in her eyes  :wink1:
and if you drive "normal" maybey the cops will leave you alone :deal: :ignore:

domonic did you want to do some wheelin today for a few hours? noonish, im going back to bed

i think supersize's post convinced me, i got alot of other crap to pay for now and my truck has been ripped off with no doors. Now i just need a pickup tailgate...

if you have a soft top...

you loose alot of weight, maybe even a window that was broke anyways or a rusted craoppy electric none working one...

the benifits are endess...
