I have myself a TBI ignition problem...

The module is good, it is new. It was running with the old dizzy before the swap.

Fordum, after you mentioned that the oil pump spins freely, I think I may be one off like you mentioned. I had a heck of a time getting the dizzy on. I think that after all my tries to get it seated I may have moved the oil pump.

Tmrw I'll set it back a notch to see what it does. I think I'm one ahead, it runs a little rough and shudders without the ECM, and not at all with the ECM, so my guess is the ECM puts it WAY out of range with the advance.

This all wouldn't be so rough if it wasn't 110 outside...

Thanks all!

Just because a part is new doesn't mean it can't be bad. The fact that the engine won't run once you plug the EST wire back together is a HUGE indicator that whatever controls the timing advance it screwy (MODULE sends the signal to the ECM).

That is sound advice, and it is worth checking out. Plus, changing that is way easier than pulling that dizzy. Is there any way to tell if it's working other than changing it out?

Ok where are we at now? I cant tell where new info ends in your original post and where new info begins.

Right now the motor is timed TDC. Without ECM it runs to about 2400 rpm and then shudders. With ECM it will not start at all.

Finally got it running. It was that Holly dizzy. I tried putting it one tooth back with no luck, then one tooth forward, then I put it in 180 just in case I was wrong. No go on all attempts. Got fed up and threw in my old dizzy to see if it was the ECM and it fired right up. Wonder whats wrong with my new dizzy...?

I don't really care anyhow, it's back to barking the tires and I can do 70 mph again at 2000 rpm.

Had to go back and look at my post on page one ... Besides geting the timing right. I was going to say that holley sucks in my post. But i thought you should at least get a timing light on it before i started slaming holly products.
Holley distributors are overpriced junk. I rember thinking that the dist might be your problem. Their electronics/modules suck.... Just like most of the rest of their POS products.
Take it back and stick with stock GM dist with a MSD blaster2 coil. They are the best for a mild TBI build.

Where is the Bypass wire. Even my local mech can not tell me. Book says to disconect it but....WHERE IS IT????

depends on the year of the rig. some are near the master cyl, some near the heater box and some under the dash on pass side.

Also a blk and a wht wire crimpped together with a 3/8ish loop conector. Thinking its a ground but to where ?

Est

I got a 91 also. Tring to set timing. EST tan white wire. Disconect then set distrib at 0. ?????

Is that how im reading this?????

Billy Tacoma.
Id like to find an honest shop to do a good tune up. for my 89 & 91.
