I haven't completely given up on this yet

Call him and ask...I bet people send stuff in and don't pay, or there are a few bad ones so they get all new, etc. I dunno, worth a shot.

You definitely want injectors matched with whatever your tune is. Yes, people run higher PSI injectors, or increase fuel pressure, but neither way is "correct". It may work ok, but the system will only compensate for fueling under light throttle conditions. From 22-24lb hr probably pretty unlikely to have an issue with the ECM not being able to lean it out enough under part throttle, but since the O2 is not used under heavy throttle, whatever fuel pressure and injector lb/hr is, is what it will be dumping under throttle.

It may smell rich because the engine isn't running right. If you aren't getting heat out of those cylinders, they definitely aren't doing any work.

Well, I just got off the phone with S&P and they have a record of me getting my PROM from them in May 2006, but don't have any of the details on the PROM settings... The guy I talked to said the only way to see what it has on it is to send it to them so they can check.

If I get the 24lb injectors, can I adjust the fuel settings in tunerpro?

Two components to chip burning...datalogging, then burning chips (PROM's). Tunerpro can help with both, but you'd have to buy the burning hardware from Moates.

Ok, I got off the phone with S&P again.

I took a look at the prom chip itself and it says "stock 2 mild" on it. So I told them that and the guy I talked to, Jake, said that "it's set up to run 22 or 24lb injectors." He also said that if I've been running 24lb injectors and it ran fine, to stick with them.

:dunno:

Yeah, sounds like "just get rid of the guy". Anyone that tells you 22 or 24lb will work is a hack IMO. It's not right.

But if you've been running 24lbers and it's not terrible (horrid emissions, terrible mileage, rich plugs, lots of carbon) I'd agree with just running what you had.

If I had some spare injectors I'd send them to you to test.

FWIW, using new-ish gaskets, I've taken my plenum and runners off multiple times and reused the gaskets. If it's been together a long time probably not recommended, but they seem to seal fine in my case. In your case I just don't see any way it can be anything other than the injectors if they are getting pulsed and the plug is getting spark, with no indication of bad rings/compression.

I went ahead and ordered some 24lb Bosch D3 injectors. After I get them in, and get an ALDL cable I'll post the data here and see what everyone (or just you, since you're the most active injection person) says. If something is way off I'll talk to Team208Motorsports and see about getting a new chip burned for my current setup.

If I take the plenum and runners off and the gaskets don't get destroyed I may try to reuse them, they aren't that old. If not, I work part time at a parts tore, and I get 20% off on stuff that doesn't need to be ordered.

Yeah, no idea what those gaskets run. For some reason I ended up with a couple sets, but I couldn't bring myself to use them lol.

If you can, snap a picture and post it of the chip in your ECM? Kind of curious how they did it, whether they used the old UV erase style, or more modern electronic wipe/program setup.

BTW, if you want to do some reading on injector constants, some of this thread is applicable. Note that MAF TPI does not use VE tables: http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-prom/449627-new-injectors-new-tune.html

Bunch of stuff in there you probably wont understand, but will probably give you an idea of why someone telling you that you are ok running two different injector sizes, is hokey.

No problem. Yeah, not an adapter board. That blue cover comes off, you'll see little tabs on either end that you pry on to lift it off. Probably nothing but a chip soldered to the black piece though.

This is what I've got to do my chips http://www.moates.net/gp1-package-gm-adapter-with-2-chips-p-41.html?cPath=64

Then you need something along these lines http://www.moates.net/apu1-autoprom-package-usb-version-p-54.html?cPath=94

Not particularly cheap, and if you don't plan on changing much else, not much point in getting all that.

The only thing I may do, and this isn't high on my priority list, is put a mild cam in and a larger bore throttle body. That's not going to happen anytime soon though.

While I have you in here, what controls torque converter lock up? I can't ever remember my torque converter locking up on the highway.

On a TPI setup it's all computerized. Assuming your truck was already 700, and it was wired back up correctly, it would have been computer controlled originally as well.

If you can't remember lockup it may not be wired up, or programmed in the chip. Pretty easy to turn the programming to manual trans from auto. You'd have to check TCC wiring and compare that with what the electrical manual shows. IIRC: just one wire from the ECM, then your brake switch, all to the TCC plug.

The truck has always had a 700r4, but it used to have an 85 body. I think that was vacuum controlled, but I'm not positive. But I do have the square TCC plug coming from the computer down the the transmission, but I never wired in the brake light switch.

'85 was definitely vacuum controlled.

Should sort it out to make sure, kind of hard if it's not running well. If the brake switch isn't hooked up, I'm guessing it doesn't work. Could be wrong, not sure how the ECM's controlled unlock via TCC for braking, if they did at all under that specific condition.

Saw that. Sorry to hear it, but I was glad to see it wasn't the K5! Not sure how you feel about that, but I'm in a similar boat...my new car is in for warranty work, so the K5 is up for daily driver duty.

Just found out it's got a leaky master cylinder and I'm not liking the oil pressure it's running at now compared to what it was last time I was driving it! lol

I was actually going to drive my blazer yesterday, but my other truck was parked behind it, so I drove it instead. I wanted to get it to be able to be a dd again, but I didn't want to be forced into it.
