I got a 1986 K5 Scottsdale with 70K original miles. Interior is like new. A/C. I think it has a lift on it because the tires are 32 x11.50 15. Runs good 305 but needs a muffler. My question is what is a good exhaust set up from summit racing for my engine. I am looking to get from the headers back. This is what i was thinking , Do I need anything else? FYI i wont be doing the work myself.

Congrats on the blazer! I'm pretty sure you will need a cat also. At least in Cali. you would.

better search a bit first as most headers that say thay fit 4x4 tend to run to close or hit the front spring shackles on the frame.

if me i would just find a good local exaust shop and have them make you a setup from scratch and get some magna flow or flowmaster style mufflers.

and find a shop that uses aluminiumized pipe. it will last a lot longer.

like said check local inspection stations to see if you will be required to run cats.

ny state is emmisions test for the parts being there even for your 86 blazer. if close to the city then possible chassie dyno testing also.

and welcome to the site.

Congrats and welcome to the site. Your addiction has started already. Enjoy.

Yah I would say just bring it somewhere, I got a 2.5 inch system and it was more than I could handle hooking it to the headers with no bending equipment. Exhaust work is usually pretty inexpensive.

And you said Blazer, and scottsdale... :dunno:

If you have a blazer the biggest system I could find premade if thats the way you want to do it is only 2.25" exhaust tubing. I wanted 2.5"

I agree with the other guys here, I would go to a reputable muffler shop in your area and have them fab up a new system. This way, you KNOW that it will fit with no problems, and they may give you a warranty on your system, which is what my muffler guy did. Good luck though! We needs pics!

Most long tube headers will hit the front spring shackles. If you must have headers, go with a shorty style. I think the 88 and up trucks shorty headers work well on these trucks with very little modification, so long as you're planning on a custom y-pipe or complete dual set up anyways.

My suggestion...
Keep the manifolds, get a custom y-pipe made 2.5" into single 3" where it meets the cat (or cat delete, that's on you) and single 3" system from the cat back and exit out the left rear behind the tire. A single 3" system will provide plenty of flow, weighs less, and sounds great and more balanced than a dual system. Plus having an exhaust shop build it, in most cases, it's cheaper than buying all the parts, having them shipped, and piecing it all together yourself.
