anyone else had a problem with their window glass exploding when you close the doors???? so far ive lost two windows in about three or four months just closing the doors.

granted, my driver side door isnt quite adjusted right, and i need to move it up a bit, so the mis alignment means i have to slam the door with a little bit of force. but i didnt think it was that bad.

im thinking maybe my weather seals being shot might have something to do with it. any thoughts? id hate to put new glass in and have the windows break again. do the window weather seals provide some sort of shock absorption??? i rebuilt the doors back around thanksgiving and made sure everything was lubed, the glass and mechanical bits were all lined up properly and in their rails.

also, i should point out the windows were down when the glass broke.

anyone know if someone makes plexiglass windows for our trucks??? ;)

I've shattered a window with it down, it's a "problem" with the design I assume.

I shut it with a large amount of force, and I had window seals, but check yours. If you don't have seals, see how much the window moves by finger pressure when down, if it's close, you need to replace the seals first off. Either way, slamming the door with the window down is a bad idea.

I thought I had done some pretty gnarly stuff to the doors/glass on these trucks, but I've never broken a window...

Anyway, I don't think you'd want plexi. You wouln't be able to see through the scratches in a short amont of time.

I have done this and I can tell you the 2 reasons why I found that mine broke.
1. the rubber bumper that the window rests on when rolled down is gone allowing he window to go down farther than it was designed to
2. poor weatherstripping in the inside/outside of the door (the horizontal pieces) if the inner and outer are crap the window moves out when shutting the door then as soon as it shuts all of the motion transfers into the truck slamming the glass against the metal of the door at the top where the door panel grabs on.

A contributing factor could be if the weather strip that goes at the front and back of the window is crap then the glass can slam against the metal track as well.

The final thing to check is make sure that the track that runs at the back of the window on the inside of the door is adjusted so that it holds the window tightly when rolled down.

I broke mine a few years back and often slam the crap out of them and I have never had a problem since I fixed these issues. Window tint helps add strength to the glass also and if by chance the glass does break (and explode as safetly glass does) then it will all stay in one piece, not a million in the bottom of your door.

I had a back window shatter while testing the crank mechanism after a repair. Always attributed it to old glass ('76) and the pounding the rear window takes. I'm looking to replace it with plexiglas or lexan to cut down on the weight and prevent more breakage.

i think lexan would last longer is pretty scratch resistant compared to plexi

I had an 85 1/2 ton that had worn out weather stripping and if i slammed the door too hard with the window half down they would shatter everytime. I ended up finding some windows out of an older model, cant remember the year but they seemed to be a little thicker and I never had a problem again.

I know I'm resurrecting an old one here, but hey, that means I searched, right?:D

Does anyone know where to find the bump stops for the bottom of the window travel? I checked classic and lmc, no dice. I'm having a hard time getting my pass side window to go up and down properly (new overtight weatherstripping is not helping), and I think this is part of the problem.

Thanks!
