Well I bought this Subruban that supposedly has 3.08 gears 10bolt front and rear, and riding on 33" tires.
It's a 350 TBI and that thing runs good, so I was always curious what he had done to it to run so strong.
Well I just jacked it up and checked the ratio by truning the tires and watching the driveshaft:
first it's 3.73 gears
second it's a LS, both tires are solid with each other, thinking clutch style, definitely not gov loc.
Anyway I am planning 4.10 axles and 35" tires, and now I am not sure if that is going to be enough.
When I thought it was 3.08, I figured I would be gaining a lot by switching to 4.10, now I am thinking if I keep the 33" tires on with the 4.10?
:dunno:

You'll find a lot of opinions on this, but generally 4.10s are a good combination with 33s, and 4.56s are a better fit for 35s. It does depend on what you use the truck for, your engine set up, etc.

You say it's a TBI motor so I'd assume it's a 700R4? Don't be afraid to gear it down, you'll thank yourself later. With a gas engine I have always thought the stock 4.10/31" was a good combo for power vs. economy. I wouldn't be afraid of 4.56's with 33's. Lots of people swear by 5.13's with 35's.

^^ with a 700r4?

I agree especially with a 700r4. I'm stuffing 5.38's in my 1 tons and I'll probably be running a 37-40" tire. Once you drive a truck with low gears you wont want to go back. I drove my k10 from our old house to our new house last month on a set of 30" tall rollers and it was a blast with the 4.10's that are in it now.

4.88 w/ 35's..... That's where it's at....

This 4.10 stuff, is garbage.

Yer real light on the skinny pedal, too... :D

Well yes it's a TBI with the 700R4 and 241 tcase, and I really wanted to step up to 35" tires and I only have 4.10 geared axles ready to go in.
It's only an all around vehicle, good for some long trips and the extra miles of dirt or snow or even a little more, I mean it didn't do too bad in Prairy city, but I was hoping for more.
It's a big change for me after running 3.08 gears and 35" tires behind my perkins TD, to feel the 4.10 are JUST RIGHT for 33" tires is a little :eek1:
I guess I will keep it this way for now and work on getting my Perkins in a vehicle so I can use my 38" tires.:dunno:

I have 4.11s and 33s. Mine hunt on the gravel. Wish it had 4.56s.

I run 5.13s and 37s -- Lots of gearing, but my engine runs outta RPMs pretty quick on the highway being a 3000 RPM diesel! I am able to go about 80mph, but it is almost red lined at that speed.

I wouldn't reduce my gearing though, especially if I was running a gas engine

What do you mean by "on the gravel"?

I just received some 4.10's I'm planning on installing in my truck w/ 33" tires. I have 3.42's now and it hunts in and out of lockup when on the highway. I assumed 4.10's would be perfect so I'm curious as to what you mean.
