But I don't know / trust the folks there so Im gonna ask it here! I am planning on buying a trailer here in the near future, I am going to haul my blazer on it. I am quite certain the plan is to buy the wife one of those chevy traverse's and turn our 99 3/4ton burb into my tow rig. Its the 7.4 version with a 4L80E and 168k miles. I usually drive with it not in O/D as it seems to want to slip in and out of it. If I leave it in 3 its fine and performs really well. What mod's / upgrades will make life a lot easier on me? I am towing an approx 5k lb vehicle on top of a tandem axle 16 ft trailer. I have a full towing package on the truck, my questions are performance oriented. What can i do to the trans to help the ol girl out on the highway, and most importantly what can I do to help the burb out while towing up a mountain side to the ORV areas?

You could add deeper gears if it's hunting in overdrive on flat ground. Also adding headers, high flowing exhaust, cold air kit, etc can all add more torque and help out fuel economy as well.

I second the trans temp gauge. But really, that is a capable tow rig. Nothing wrong with it. Run quality E range tires (or tires with equivalent load capability to teh stock size e ranges) properly aired up, get a trans temp gauge on it, and have fun. You can pull with that trans in OD as long as its not hunting for gears, so knock yourself out!

Of course you can get some small gains from bolt-ons like headers, exhaust, cold air intake, etc.....but nothing that stands out really.

I agree. Also you want to keep that tranny cool. I would add an extra tranny cooler along with an extra deep finned aluminum tranny pan. A finned rear end cover would not be a bad ideal either.
Since a Burb is already heavy enough as it is, not to mention adding tongue weight. I would consider some type of over loads for the back. Air bags work pretty good.

On a big block the gains are more noticeable than on a smaller engine. Naturally you want a good product.

As far as the trailer goes, I would not get a 16 foot to haul with. Get at least a 18' or 20'. I have a 18 and sometimes wish I would have got a 20 just to have a bit more room. Also make sure you get a 10k. I have a 10k PJ buggyhauler and have no complaints outside of the length.

As far as the Burb goes. It should be fine in stock form except like mentioned above. Run a good trans cooler and put a guage on it. Power wise you can do stuff like headers, exhaust, cold air intake, and some ignition mods. Also you can put a different chip in the computer. Gears or a supercharger would wake it up a good bit too.
