I say give it some more time, unless you know you lost them somewhere you can't recover them.
I don't know about the ignition, but if it's all stock if you pull out the ppassenger door lock they can get the numbers and possibly get you the ignition key made as well, you might need the dealer to do that though, otherwise ask the locksmith what your options are.

Best way would probably be to take the column apart and pull the lock cylinder. Then you can swap in any GM one you have the keys to...

I've torn down two steering columns in the past week or so. (In fact, I have both of them apart right now and can take some pictures if you need them, or I can post up a link to some good diagrams)

It's fairly straightfoward, though you'll need a steering wheel puller if it's the stock wheel.

I was hoping someone had some genius gone in 60 seconds type trick LOL

I suppose I will take apart the column. GRRRRR it just sucks I lost the stupid key. My own stupid fault for having to take a couple extra hours I don't have and take the column apart

Unbolt ignition switch from the top of the column. Take off the rod that runs down the column. Stick a small punch in the rod hole of the ignition switch and slide it up and down to start/work the truck. Once you start the truck, you need to steer so for the locked column, you can take the steering wheel apart and grind the tab off the lock collar that enables the wheel to spin so you can turn. hth.

I just noticed this now but your title is a little off, I don't know if it's the keys that are stupid
:haha:

If you're through that much work...might as well replace the lock cylinder. If you have a wheel puller and lockplate depressor, it's a 10 minute job. Also if he has an auto, would need a way to shift the transmission.

1 try another chevy key and wiggle it you might get luck and have it work worn ignitions will usually work with random keys.

2 Just break it chanel loks twist it on, if the ears break drill out the tumblers and you can now start it with a flat head or other.

3 deal with the column re key later.

door locks pull it and have a key shop make you one 20 bucks or so. That way you have a key for the glove back hatch so on

This might sounds crazy, but have you tried just turning the cylinder by hand? I have a friend with a truck that starts without a key. Maybe you'll get lucky?

first thing I tried then I rounded up every chevy key I could find and tried them too. No luck as soon as I am done with my shifters I am going to tackle this problem really as my time schedule is getting insanely tight it may be the locksmith route

I guess Im one of the lucky ones cause I can just turn the switch and start her right up, key or no key!

They could steal it but I dont daily drive it and it is parked in my garage anytime its not being wheeled, which it is trailered to.
