Ok guys I sold my 72 Blazer a while back. A wife and 20 month old little boy just didn't allow me to keep. I have not been on the site in a while. I had a 91 Jimmy before I had my 72. I sold it to a guy and now he wants to sell it back to me. I had the blazer painted 4" lift 35's roll bar installed. It was a good running a driving blazer. The guy that bought it never drove it. He has a lot of money and carried to his beach house. 5hr drive from where we live. He wants to drive it back this weekend and sell it back to me. He just had the cruise fixed, air gone through, and a total tune up. He has bought a jeep to leave at the beach now. He wants 8,500 for it. What do y'all think. I miss CK5! The pant looks better than it does in that last pic. And top is not dented at all.

Thanks

For one - that's a good looking truck

For two, the bigger question is - how does $8500 compare to the price he paid you for it. The items he fixed are maintenance items to me and aren't usually recovered in the sale price. These trucks have pretty solid value but prices haven't shifted much in the past few years. Long story short, I'd offer him a little under what he paid you and go from there.

Agreed, maybe even more than "a little" depending on how long ago you sold it to him.

That's what I was thinking. He paid me 6,500 and said he put 3,000 in it over the past 9 years or so... I want it for 5,500-6,000. But I know I can't find another one for that here in ga already lifted ready to go for too much less. I have been looking pretty hard.

If it only cost him 3K to keep it running over the last 9 years, then he's doing well. Cost me more than that just in tires, tune-ups, and maintenance. And I do it all myself. I don't think his expectation to recover that is realistic.

Obviously you have a connection to this truck and you're going to have to figure out how much you're willing to pay to get it back. But I would take a look online if I were you. There's a lot of other nice trucks out there for that kind of money. If nothing else, you could print off some ads for other trucks in similar condition for sale at a lower price to try to bring his number down.

There's a nice K5 for sale on Craigslist for $55K.....

.... offer him $49K and negotiate from there.

I'm sure he'd jump all over an offer that's almost 6x what he's asking. :D
We know what you meant though. :doah:

I bet some por sap would pay 8500. Air and a tune up doesn't count as costly repairs. Unless he rebuilt the motor, and put a built trans, and built axles. It just doesn't work that way. I wish it did, then I would have sold all of my vehicles for way more.

23 year old 2nd Gen just not worth 8500 even as nice as that one is.
A pristine 2nd gen full vert would be hard pressed to get that . IMO

I agree it is a nice 2nd gen but 8500 is a little steep. Like the others said, what it really boils down to is how bad do you want it and what are you willing to give for it. There are still quite a few nice ones left out there in your price range.

I personally have never been a fan of people bringing me papers of something "similar" to what I have for sale, I usually will tell them to go buy the others then if I'm set on my price. Hate lowballers.

That is a lot of money, but that is also a nice K5 and you know the history. It would be cool for you to have the same one again. If you get a different one, the history will either be unknown, or you will have to trust that it is what they say it is. It sounds like this K5 is in good shape and doesn't need any work. How many miles has he put on it? Is this truck setup the way you want vs. buying something else and customizing it to what you are looking for?

My K5 was in very nice condition when I got it, but now the paint is peeling and it needs tires, AC, and a CV drive shaft (it needed the drive shaft when I bought it). At least I know the history now that I have had it for 8 years and I put a new engine in it and had the trans rebuilt. It sucks that it needs work now, but it is what it is. I really liked it when it was good looking and I didn't have projects to get done on it. I had a previous K5 that needed a ton of work and was cheap. I later found the K5 I have now, and it was already painted, lifted, and had tires and wheels I liked and it had not been hacked up or repaired by someone who had no clue. With a family, you are probably more strapped for money and time than I am.

Check the truck out to see if it is still as good as you think, and then see if he will come down a bit on the price. It is a personal decision, especially since it has sentimental value. Sometimes the extra money hurts now, but later you end up being glad that you got what you really wanted.

I think I want to reverse my stance. If the OP can't get it cheap, I hope somebody buys it for $8500. If we can get a few hundred more to sell that high, that would really improve the value of mine.:D

You probably cannot get another truck in that good shape (although you did not post pictures of the interior or underbody, but I am assuming they are perfect) and either (a) already has the mods you want or (b) can mod it for the same money, not including the time to do it.

I'd offer $7,000 and shoot for $7,500 max.

However, if the interior or underbody are rough, then it's not worth it at all.

Good call on the plastic. I didn't see that. Had put a new rear end in it about a year after he bought it from me. Don't know why. It never gave me any trouble. The trans would drop a little while I had it. The under and inside is like new. Dash pad to carpet. He's high! I think y'all are right on. I just can't pay 8,500 for it. I'm thinking, 6,500- 7,000.

He wants to sell it....you want to buy it....meet in the middle. See if he will go $7000 and if not maybe agree to $7500. Looks like he kept it garaged....and you know the truck.

You could find another one in similar shape...let's say you find one for $5000 (not likely) and it's in another state (shipping $1200) and it turns out the floor is rusted out under the carpet....or it's all plastic filler.

My advice is to leverage the relationship as buyer and seller that you already have....since he already has a jeep to replace it, he probably doesn't have room for it. Selling is a hassle, I hate it....having to deal with strangers that show up at your house to look at it...

Give him a quick and short path to be rid of it..."I got $7000 cash, I'll pick it up today"....etc....
