I must be getting older - starting to want the stuff I saw but couldn't have as a kid/young man

I went from my 85 CC dually 2wd with the stock 454 getting 10.5 mpg average.
To my 2016 CCSB 2500hd 4wd with the new fancy FI 6.0.... that only averages 11.4 :doah:

I finally got to buy a shop to work in at the age of 43..:thinking: ... Give or take a year. And quickly started a bunch of projects. Only to realize that pulling engines and transmissions at nearly 50 now, kinda fuggin SUCKs. Lol.

I'm finally financially sound enough, and definitely set up enough to build the toys I wanted when I was younger..
and my body's like :flipoff11:

I now find myself looking at totally rust free, basically stock 1960-85 cars and thinking, "yeah, that's all Id need". Nothing crazy, nothing super special or fancy....

I think of that a lot while I'm slaving away working on my 600+HP suburban, trying to put fancy paint on it, and planning boost in the semi near future :haha:
Why can't I just do what my brain is screaming I should? lol.

Just kidding - I’ve been trying to get John to get Wild-n-Nasty on another motor but he’s hung up on and committed to finish putting daughter number two through college just as he did number one a few years ago. Then there’s talk of two expenses weddings in his future that will hit the bank account pretty hard - gotta give him credit for having priorities.

John’s doing all he can to make his motor as effective as possible w/o break’n the bank - we’re just work’n on making it breath a little better and pull a whole lot harder.

I told my daughter I would pay until she turned 25. After that, she was on her own. A judge married them so they could share insurance.

Trick is to convince them a huge expensive wedding is a horrible idea.
Tell em to do it in the back yard or in a park, and a BYOB reception.
Then do a big shindig at 10 years. (Which they can pay for then lol).

And that any money you'd have used for the big wedding, would be better used for a down payment on a house or something.
Even if you spend the same on them, it's better used.

Oh man - I sure hope neither of John’s daughters ever read this thread or I may loose my “Uncle Tom” status with them.

They both understand how important the Blazers is but not so much as to effect their lives and celebrations of nuptials with the ones they love - John’s just gonna have to get a second job to support the motor upgrades! I don’t think a 454 based block is gonna cut it - gonna need to get into tall deck 572 ( 4.50” x 4.50” ) territory with big port heads and almost .700 lift range wiggle stick numbers.

I’ve just realized that this thread has gone a little somewhat off topic - hijack is over; please resume regularly scheduled programming.
 
With respect to the weddings, we were ready with #1 but they semi eloped because he (Navy) need the license to get housing and she was hot to be married and move off with him. My wife was really disappointed she didn’t get the ceremony but it is what it is.

#2 is a senior in college and the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be realigning her focus on the prize instead of dating - I’m definitely ok with that. She’s pretty independent and her way or no way so I expect she’ll be settled into her job for a while before getting the urge to be married.

Moral of the story, Blazer money! :D
 
(I think we just realized the horse barn we were at is jerking us around. Daughter is going to try out a new riding style at another barn that doesn’t seem so foo foo/elitist/expensive.)

Our #1 daughter has a horse, when she was in her mid teens she transitioned from English to western pleasure which she enjoys so much more. Much less stress.

I got lucky; my youngest daughter went to the courthouse and they told her she could use the big courtroom on a Friday afternoon. I bought her a wedding dress and walked her down the aisle. they were able to have about 45 guests. afterwards his family throwed a reception at a Mexican food place.
my oldest daughter and her fiance came down for the wedding. she had set up an appointment with a Justice of the Peace for a Saturday morning wedding. it was them, myself, my mom and dad, and my newly married daughter and her new husband. the oldest told me, "well, we were all going to be down there anyway, so we figured we might as well get married while we are there." my oldest is very practical minded.
my youngest told me later "I told Mellissa she could get married any day she wanted as long as it wasn't the same day as me. Never did I dream she would get married the day after." :rotfl:

Yeah, you’ve told me. These people are new barn owners and seem to be aiming for the high dollar Saddleseat money right out of the gate. Old owner was much more inclusive of others and wasn’t aiming straight at, “everyone buys a $50,000 minimum horse and pays $1,500 per month to train and board it.”

I am NOT buying a horse. We leased one for over a year and then that owner left the area. They don’t seem to want us to lease another so you know what, time for some tough parenting and we’ll try something different elsewhere.

I’m pushing for that one where they sorta do barrel racing and shoot out the balloons with blanks.

I built the Iron Maiden @ 52-53yrs old. Could work on it for. 4-6 hours a day, they work the evening shift. Physical limits were minimal, but 45 yrs of physical labor jobs have taken their toll. Extra pounds don’t help either.
Do it while you still have good health, because once you lose it, you become limited at enjoying life.

I agree. My window is closing faster than yours and I am 61, due to arthritis and lumbar stuff. It's getting to where the fun doesn't outweigh the pain. I see the time coming soon where I won't be able to fix anything without serious, serious pain. I'm not taking my Blazer to the grave, I've already decided that. I've already gone from "It's not for sale" to "Not yet".
