Clean looking install.

Thanks. Everything i do with wiring looks like that. I can't help it.

I look at it from the view point of future upgrades or troubleshooting. It is always easier if everything is nice and neat with lables or trace markers.

Chief, you are the man. With the grounding straps (two) I am getting 1.2 and 1.4 on 1 and 40. Should be good enough. :saweet:

I'm only going to use the "stuff" while off road. I go camping with a group in AZ and we are way out. i'm hping that the amp gets me a little further out in the cannyons/hills. Everyone else uses them for that. The SWR goes up to about 3 to one with the amp on.

3:1 sounds a little too high. Try to tune it a little better or keep off the heat until you can get it down to below 2:1.

When i had my 102" whip you see in the pics i got it down to 1.2:1 on both 1 and 40. Like i said beofre it took time with all the grounding issues i had but it was worth it.

Did you recalibrate the meter when you turned the amp on? If you have it calibrated to read your swr using only radio power and then just flip the switch for the amp and don't recalibrate the meter the reading isn't accurate. After turning on the amp and while the amp is "keyed" you need to recaibrate the meter as you did when using only the radio power to set your swr. The only way to "change" swr is to adjust your antenna, so simply turning an amp on cannot change your swr unless there is a horrible impedance mismatch inside the amp, which is likely not the case. Also be sure that the amp is grounded good; I always use the ground wire from the amp and add a ground wire to the case of the amp.

Good catch on the cal. thing, Divorced. I have never seen an impedance mismatch from an amp but i always see people using the wrong patch cable or a crappy patch cable from the radio to the amp.

Ever seen RG-59 or 223 half rigid. Talk about a mismatch...That will wreak havok with your SWR's. Most people will get the SWR right then add the amp improperly and never bother to match the antenna again

I had not thought of that. Looks fairly close when I recalibrate the meter with the amp on. The jumper is just a 3 ft jumper from Radio Shack (they are close). Should I look into a better jumper, or will this do?

The RS jumper that you have should work fine. The length doesn't matter, just use whatever you need to reach it. I always use RG213, but it's overkill for a jumper wire. It gets warm though from my amp to antenna.
