I want to replace (upgrade) everything in my steering 88k5 on 33's. It's not real bad but time to replace something that's worn. I'm tired of replacing a worn part every nine months . I would like to do it all at one time so I know what I have. I'm going to have it done at a buddies shop and he doesn't care if I bring in my on parts. I'm thinking tie rods ball joints drag link what else? Moog parts or go with something else? Also going to put new stabilizer on there what's the best to get?

Besides what you listed, as long as you have the knuckles off you should replace the bearings, races and seals. And believe it or not, if the u-joints on the axle shafts are bad (frozen) they can affect the steering too. Check the brake caliper/pads/hoses too. Maybe a new rag joint. And I use nothing but Moog.
A steering stabilizer is a band-aid fix. Shouldn't need one if everything is good. Drive it first and see before you get one. And don't forget to get an alignment after all that work.

Besides what you already mentioned, I'd also check the hub bearings. Loose ones = sloppy steering. Also, inspect the frame for cracks around the steering gearbox bolts.

If you feel like modding to improve on the factory steering, you can spring for an ORD bolt-in frame brace or an XJ steering shaft or cross-tied front shackles or any combination of these. These are all fairly easy mods. If you can change ball joints, you can do 'em.

Is the XJ shaft mod that much better than a new rag joint?:dunno: I've seen the video but I've never talked to anyone thats done it seems like a solid rag joint would do the same?

Are you a stock truck?

Even if you are I would consider building a tie rod. Out of stouter stuff and putting bigger TRE ends in it. You will need to retaper ( can be expensive) but it would net you huge TRE and it is cheaper to replace 2 one ton tie rod ends than the stock stuff

It's stock for the next few weeks, trying to piece together a 4'' suspension lift one payday at a time:haha:. TC springs and ORD shackle flip zero rates 1'' body lift. pretty sure I'm going with blisteins all the way around . I just put new wheels and 33's on it . Had the 700r4 built and replaced all the motor sensors. I'm caught up in a money bleeding vortex .

XJ steering shaft makes an impressive difference in tightness. The factory shaft has a rag joint AND a damper in it. The XJ shaft has u-joints and (what seems to be) a tighter damper. Some even weld the damper up so it's a solid shaft.

As far as high payoff, low cost, easy mods - this is a good one. I paid less than $20 for the shaft at a U-pull-it and the tools to put it in are a hammer, 1 wrench, and a dremel or grinder to make a small notch. There are plenty of tutorials on here if you need details.

I wouldn't prioritze it above your maintenance repairs, but I do recommend it as one of your first mods. Plus, time-wise, it takes no longer than replacing a rag joint.

In that case make the steering work until you can buy crossover. Then build or buy a beefy tie rod. Will make a huge difference on and off road
