I want to take my k5 in for scrap, but I'm trying to figure out how to get it there. I have a 12' 3000 lb trailer, but I don't know if the truck weighs more than that. It is complete except for the engine, trans, transfer case, and axles. I tried subtracting the weight of those parts from a rough guess if 5000lb, but that only put me at 3500lb, which seemed a little high. Is this the about right? I'd rather not have to borrow a bigger trailer and truck to take care of this.

as in 4500 lbs curb weight? That puts me in a range I'm much more comfortable with. I'd rather not overload the trailer more than a couple hundred pounds, I can't really afford to replace a bent axle right now.

EDIT: I forgot we had the specifications here, 4462 lbs. That's better.

My 89 blazer with 1 tons weighs 5,880 lbs. which i would say is probably about 600 pounds heavier than a bone stock rig. A SBC weighs 565, auto trans about 200 with convertor, t-case anywhere from 80-180 depending on what t-case, stock 10/12/44 axles are probably close to 200-250 each and then suspension (springs and hardware) i would guesstimate around 300ish.

Last time I had my 2500hd 18foot trailer and Jimmy on the trailer I was at 12,900. the trailer and truck with out Jimmy was 7600 so Jimmy is right around 5300 but its got a winch, bumper, 33 etc so 4900 sounds about right.

Just as a curiosity, why are you scrapping it? If you have storage I would part it out and make some money on the good pieces.

I've tried parting it out and selling it whole. No one is interested enough to buy it. Relatively speaking, it isn't that rusty, but it's still too rusty for anyone looking to do a body swap around here. No one wants the whole thing since there's enough little stuff missing that it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a whole truck. I decided two years ago to get rid of it, and yet it's still here. At this point, I'm tired of looking at it and just want it gone.

Based on what I'm hearing here, I may as well just borrow a truck and trailer just to be on the safe side. 3k was going to be at the limit of what I am willing to tow with my DD ranger anyway.

Just to add another reference my K10 weighs exactly 4,280 with me in it so it's right at 4,000 pounds.... I had it weighed on a DMV certified scale.

It has no bed, an aluminum fuel cell instead of the big saddle tanks and everything behind the cab has been stripped down to basically the bare frame.

Thanks. I finished the expanded metal all the way to the back bumper last week and it made a HUGE difference.... it actually looks semi-finished out back now. :)
Now it's time for a traction bar and a cage. :waytogo:

In case anyone needs a reference, the k5 weighed in at exactly 2400 lbs. Thats with full interior and body, no engine, trans, transfer case, driveshafts, axles, wheels and tires.

$130. I was hoping for a little more, but that's still not bad. Price dropped a little and I had less weight than I expected.

$120 a metric ton. That's about 3 times what it was 6 months ago. At point I didn't really care, I wanted it gone.
