I need a starter for a high compression BBC. 14:1 compression. Any ideas?

yeah, lots of gear reduction starters in summit/jegs. Personally, if I had the $ to blow for a GOOD starter, I'd get one from Mean Green.

Starter

I use a starter off a later model Vortec Chevy. They are high torque and work very well.

CSR from Scoggin-Dickey about $153 with the taxes and all. Had it about 9 months now and no problems, not even hot starts.

I picked up a small high torque starter from autozone for about $125 and have had no hot start problems.
