just took smoking and knocking 305 tbi out, put 350 tbi out of 87 pickup, used all parts off 305, tbi, sensors etc. i changed the cam out for the edlbrock performer cam for tbi part # edl-3702 in summit. truck will start but will only run for a few seconds any help would be great:bow:

i have also checked the timing as best i could for a engine that will not stay running, checked the vaules as well

i was told from 305 to 350 you need 350 injectors... least thats what im changing on mine

I believe that the 305 and 350 injectors have different part numbers, with the 350 injectors having a 16% higher flow rate or something like that. The 350 has about that much more displacement vs the 305, so he could well be running way too lean. If he had the 350 injectors to swap in and try out, it would be one of the first things I'd try.

Actually the correct sensors do matter. The most important one is the MAF, it's calibrated for the 305 and you are pulling a lot more air by the MAF with the 350. Also you must have the the correct .bin for the 350. I'm not sure if the origional ECM will work or not. Most of the other sensors that do not relate to airflow *should* work. You will also need the correct (larger) injectors for the 350 (again you are moving a LOT more air through the engine than with the 305 and you have to feed it). You are not getting enough fuel to keep the engine running beyond idle so you will have to correct this.

You really need to see what the ECM is seeing along with the information that the sensors are sending to the ECM. You need to download ALDL and start learning what your engine is telling you that it needs.

You can start here: http://www.winaldl.webhop.net/. Also head over to www.thirdgen.org and start looking around. Thier search engine is temperally disabled until their change over to thier new server is finished, but you can use the advanced search option on google (there's a sticky on the DIY Prom page that gives you the directions on how to do this). The TBI and DIY Prom pages have a wealth of information and it is well worth the time it takes to do some in depth reading.:D

second that

when swapping a 350 in from a 305 i heard you can use everything but injectors, knock sensor, ecm. i think i read that about camaros when i was working on my friends thirdgen.

i belive it has a map sensor, i did not even think of that, could i go to a salvage yard and get a ecm for a 350 to help, would it plug right in with no mods, and i will change the injectors, they do carry a differnt part number

would it also help to tell you guys that i have the edlbrock performer tbi intake on the motor as well, wanted the cam to work as best it could
