Hi all! I'm new here. Not real new to squares but I'm always learning. I just bought an 88 K5 and starting to fix all the BS that the previous owner rigged and ruined. My newest project is t he steering column. I had my pops help me and we blew it apart and tightened down the 4 screws with lock-tite. I re-assembled it and it's pretty sloppy at the end near the steering wheel still. I';m thinking I should have replaced the bearings and found a new bearing race and crown as well. Does anyone have a good bearing crown they can sell me?

Also, on my high beams. I installed the paw correctly that pushes on the rod, I installed a new AC Delco multi-function turn signal switch and installed a new God awful-to-remove lower mounted high/low beam switch on the lower column.

When I actuate the high beam lever (Pull toward driver) I can see the rod depressing the plunger at the bottom of the column but I hear no audible CLICK and the high beams do not come one. I cannot figure this out.

Thanks, y'all!

You have to adjust the dimmer switch to find the sweet spot for it to work properly. It sounds like you need to adjust it up towards the steering wheel a little but and retest.

As far as the looseness at the top, I haven't had to replace one of those bearings, but maybe that is the problem, not sure of course. I don't think that I have any spare parts, either.

Oh man, I feel so dumb. The new highbeam switch came with a small metal bracket holding the plunger closed. I just went and took it off and I have working high beams now. Wow. Maybe I should stick to building guns

If you can build guns, you can build trucks.
Look, you figured it out by yourself
