I got a. 90 k5 I took. Out the ignition switch and got a new one. I can't get new one in seem the bar is way to long now...so I pulled the steering wheel off and there a plate with holes that lock the wheel..how do I get that off? Someone please. Help. I need to have running in like 15 days.

Start the new lock cylinder in the hole and you might have to turn the key in order for the cylinder to go in further and lock in place.

Also, you push down on the plate, and there is a wire ring around the shaft.

But, if you are doing that to put on the rod, hopefully you won't need to if you turn the key.

Actually, after reading this again I now am wondering how you were able to remove the key cylinder without removing the lock plate? The lock plate MUST come off to properly remove the key cylinder.

I think the key word here is "properly"........

Lock plate is still on. And key linkage seems to long when I try to put new switch in
Linkage seems 3 inches to long. Key Cly is still in

You have to remove the lock plate to get pack to the key, sector gear, rack, etc. That rod should only be like 3 inches long. You need to go back behind the lock plate and see if the rod (flat dowel) it pushed through too far (and hung up on the sector gear, so you cant push it back through with the lock.

Or actually would could be happening is that you do not have the cylinder lock pin out. If you never removed the plate then you did not remove the lock pin, however if the lock pin is still in, I am not sure how you got the old one out.

To be honest with you if you have this many questions, and need it running quickly, you need to take it somewhere. More than likely something is damaged down there, and parts will need to be ordered anyways.

Sorry you are having trouble. It seems to be the way it goes with blazers, especially steering columns.

You MUST remove the lock plate in order to get the old key cylinder out. Obviously you can't even begin to install the new key cylinder until you have remove the old one. My guess is that part of the key cylinder came apart but there is more that needs to come out before you go any further. Can you get us some pics to see what you're dealing with?

ok i got it now the damn lock plate retainer came out while i was putting wheel back on now i cant find it nor get the wheel back off wtf?
