My '85 K20 Suburban doesn't have any speakers or a head unit in it and my bluetooth JAM speaker and Iphone work fine for now but I need to listen to my right wing radio without using up data.

I plan on a Kenwood or Pioneer, because that's what I'm familiar with, head unit without a CD player but I need suggestions on speakers. For my use I want something better than stock, but nothing crazy. I plan on using 6x9's in the back unless you guys suggest something else, and 3.5" dash speakers.

I'm not going to add kick panel or speakers in the doors either. For the 6x9's I am going to CAD up a set of factory looking speaker covers and 3d print those out of ABS.

The last time I bought speakers was in 1997 for my '69 Ford van so I am out of my comfort zone on this one.

Sounds like almost any speaker will work for you. I avoid the cheapest brands like Boss, Pyle, anything at your local auto parts store. I like Alpine, Kicker, Pioneer, JBL, Memphis. Round speakers are better than oval speakers, but I don't think this will matter for you. I don't listen to music loud anymore so I just put some 4x6 JBL model 6420 in my blazer. It was $40 for the pair of speakers, and I have it running off a 1990's Sony deck. Sounds surprisingly good.

It's been quite a few years since I was heavy into stereo. But my favorite sounding speakers after MANY brands and trials, was the 'Infinity kappa'. And the jbl GTO series is great sounding... But as far as I found when I bought mine they're all 2 ohm and you'd need an amp.. if you can find a set in 4 ohm they'd be great for you.
They get a bad name, but the Sony explodes actually sound pretty good too.
As stated though, just buy a known name and you should be fine.
For your deck I'd lean towards pioneer. I don't know what's going on at Kenwood, but they were always my go-to, and the last 4 I bought died quick in various ways :dunno:

Yea I’m going to call crutchfield and make sure that everything works together before ordering. Speakers and head units have gotten cheap!

Pass crutchfield... Sonicelectronix.com
Or
Onlinecarstereo.com

I forgot about the infinity kappas, thats another brand where you can't go wrong.

I have an old pathfinder with JBL GTO components all around, 4 channel Memphis amp and Pioneer deck. A 10 year old set up but still crispier than anything i hear nowadays. I ran several different subwoofer setups, my favorite being a JL 500/1 amp and a 10in W7 sub, second favorite was a pair of kicker cvrs. it was a fun way to blow money
