im having a hard time deciding on what lift i want to use. i have 4" and an 8" lift, i like the looks of the 8" but i also want to drive it on the road every now an then. what do you guys think?:dunno:

You should install the 8 and send me the 4:haha:

Really, it depends on tires and amount of trimming you want to do

4" is a good daily driver height.. but if you want big tires and height, I would go with the 8".. Hell i wasnt satisfied until I was at 20" lift with my K20, but at that point i reached the point of sickness..

Depending on your laws, 8" might be too high.. 4" you can still go up without to much hassle and its easier on the wallet (brake lines, driveshafts -if needed at all- legal heights, no drop lights, axle problems--caster, steering correction etc--

I think an 8" lift with 40s looks pretty cool.

Of course a 4" lift with 40s looks pretty cool too.

An 8" is going to take more work to really make it work correctly and will almost always ride worse than a 4" lift.

8" lifts to me are pretty much for showin off and looking cool. But they can be used off road plenty. My blazer was lifted 9" and I thought it looked cool. It was my daily driver.

im guna wheel the piss out of it when i get it built, i agree the 8" is mostly for showing off, if i go with 4" im guna run zero rates in all four corners and some other stuff to get around a 6" lift out of it and run 35-38s, its a 1985 K5 blazer with a 454, 4 spd, 3/4 axles with 4.56 locked front and rear

If your gonna wheel it, I like the 4" and a sawzall :D

over 4" and stick shift on blazer = lots of work for drive shafts .

i would do 4" and zero rates for axle forward movment and 1" lift. then just stright up in rear for 1" more.

I have 8" springs, drop shackles, and zero rates to make up 10" of suspension lift with a 3" body to clear 44's. When they say it's for looking good they mean it. It doesn't flex whatsoever and the ride is horrible... I will admit I love being one of the tallest trucks in the area but sacrificing usability for showing off gets old quick! Unless its a straight mud pit, any kind of trail riding is pointless in mine. To each his own though!

i'm going to agree with thrillbilly, I would like to have one of the biggest trucks but I dnt think it would be worth it in the long. Where I live we dnt have much trails but alot of mud roads. I'm thinking the 4" might be the way to go

Yeah, 4" is the way to go. If you can find a ride in an 8" lift truck with 40's that may satisfy your curiousity and it may not be what you expected ride and handling wise. I have what was a 4" lift on my K30 but the springs are now sagged. The front springs are 20yr old Rancho's which now sit perfectly straight, with 39.5 TSL's. It's kind of neat to see pics of my truck 20yrs ago when I installed the springs and how it's ride height has changed over time. It actually handles nice and is great on trails with it's seemingly low cog.

I again agree with the 4"-6" rule for the street or DD.

But i also think 40+ inch tires and big lift is sooo coool... and you can see traffic much further ahead, and you know you cant really go 60mph around without safety concern so it keeps your speed down and awareness up.

Rough ride? yes it is, with having a 12" spring from superlift (i put 2k pounds in the back and it barely moved) its rough, if you go big, limit tire pressure, dont drive like a yahoo and 8" would be tolerable on the street and you cant get them to flex, depends on the way you build those 8".. and if you have a gf or wife, she wont mind the extra couple of inches

i just cant get passed the look of the 8" tho, lol, it looks so good

Well then use the 4" springs add a zero rate add a 2" longer shackle and do a 1" body lift that's 7"

Do you have 4" rear springs? If so b-52 kit from diy use them up front for nearly 8" of lift if not a touch more then a shackle flip with stock springs out back with a 4" block.

Lots of ways to skin a cat here

I'm liking blazinzuk's idea for the front as for the rear i'm running ORD 4" shackle flip with add a lead and zero rates
