I've been looking for a decent lookin 73-86 Blazer for quite some time.

I had a 1979 Chevy c10 but i had to get rid of it and it killed me.

So now I finally found a 1977 K5 Blazer 4x4 for about a grand. It's in pretty good shape. 122000 original miles is what they're telling me. Got a little surface rust. decent paint. hard top. oversize mud tires.

i don't really know much about what's under the hood. guy told me 350. but that could mean a lot. he didn't sound like he knew anything bout them.

anybody have any suggestions and what i should do first. what should wait. what goes with age... things like that?

email me please

THANKS A LOT.

chill-ill!!!

The first thing I would do is the basics like spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Flush the radiator, check belts, hoses, thermostat, etc. Then you should check brakes, bearings, locking hubs, (if it has them), and service them as needed.

That being said, if it's a 77, you'll probably have a 350 engine, TH350 tranny and NP203 transfer case. The big 3 went to a full time 4x4 system from 74-79 and the NP 203 is a full-time, chain driven transfer case. It's not a terrible setup, but it's not as good as an NP205 gear driven case. Just make sure all your fluids are good and drive it for awhile. After you get comfortable with it, then you could think about mods for it down the road.

Yeah, that'd be the mighty LIONS avatar I've got. My dad got me hooked on them since he's from Detroit and I've been a faithful fan since 1993. We watch them every Thanksgiving and then we make excuses why they lost every day-after-Thanksgiving to our friends. LOL

thnx for ur opinions...

well i haven't bought it yet.
it's selling for 995$ so i know it has some issues but it runs well.
122000 miles.
and i have about 10,000$ That I'm gonna come up on in about a month or so to throw into it.

if you have 10g's to play with you may want to find one that already has some upgrades (axles, gears, etc) or at least make sure its rust free. i have seen some really nice and well built rigs sell for a lot less then 10grand recently, you may want to wait till you have the dough and start with something closer to the end result you want.

yea. i'm thinking the same thing. i talked to one of my buddies up here the other day. he's way more experianced in the craft then myself.
he's got a '71 blazer. and he built it from the ground up.
he was tellin me it'd be easier to just wait and get one down the road. plus the '77 wasn't full convertible. and even though i can get it chopped it's just too much work.
it's just a lot easier if i go for '73-'75 years.

so i'm on the internet again. searching. if you guys see anything that could help me out. lemme know. i'd really appreaciate it.
