I finally got some time to work on the UAV tonight after work, I shaved my 14-bolt, man was it easy. I made 3 cuts with the sawzall, one on the bottom and one on each side then took the angle grinder to it. I think I might take a tad more off this weekend when I have some more time. Clifton, the owner of Avalanche Engineering is going to weld on a diff guard to my rock ring and take down the area to match my new cuts. I will put up pics this weekend after I trim a little more.

So Steve, now that you've had some practice with that sawzall...

i thought the diffs would have to be cut with a torch or something more brutal then smoothed out with the grinder. nice.

EGOR! get me my blades! ive got work to do...

Pete, I don't think your K5 is any stranger to a sawzall!!
Mtpockets, a grinder takes the housing down like it's butter.

Steve, Have your pics of the 14bolt shave been posted yet? Did I miss them?
JT

Nope, I plan on shaving just a little more, mostly to get rid of the razor stuble then I will post pics. I did get my rock ring shaven down and a ring plate added to it and painted just have to find the time to finish the project now.

FINISH???, Are you ever really finished?

'85 K5, 350, 700r4, np208, 10 bolts, as of 10/2001; wish list is extensive.

Just out of curiosity....I thought ALL 14-Bolts had that "Grappling hook" looking piece on the bottom (its underneath and runs in front-to-back). The one I just got for myself doesn't have that. There is a rather large 'ring' of material all the way around the center section that is substantially larger than the diff cover, so there is still probably something that could be 'clearanced'......but now I'm a bit puzzled.

That "ring" you're refering to is the big boat anchor everyone's talking about. You can see how that would get hung up on rocks because it sticks out about an inch from the housing. This pic shows what Stephen Watson did the the ORD K5, basically just rounded off the lip:
